A Life Of Leisure Beckons.

Hello,

.

Mid-week greetings, hoping that all is well with you.

.

Everything is fine here, it has even stopped raining and snowing at last.

The past few days have been dry and we have enjoyed periods of sunshine….bright, hot, sunshine.

How good is that!

.

We have not really been doing very much this week, as Big H does not have energy to spare, and he has needed to go back to his office to hand in his computer and passes etc. because he becomes officially retired this week.

Although he had been dreading the exertion a bit, it turned out to be very enjoyable for him after all.

.

His colleagues had made him a huge card and everyone had signed it and written messages to him.

They had also had a collection and bought him the most beautiful and thoughtful retirement gift.

It is a wonderfully crafted American keep net, for him to use when he goes fishing to fill in his new free time.

.

Wasn’t that thoughtful of them, he was thrilled to bits, so obviously every time he uses it he will remember where he got it from, and hopefully he will be feeling better soon and able to enjoy going fishing again….perhaps even actually catch something with all of this new time to practice.

.

When he got back yesterday he was tired and his throat was very sore from talking but he was feeling happy.

A good way to start his new life!

.

It must be strange for a man to retire, because I think that they use their job in order to relate to themselves and their place in the world.

If you ask a man about himself then he tells you what job he has. That is him!

A woman will tend to tell you different things, as she is often a mother, daughter, sister and wife as well as having a career.

It may have changed now, but when I was young and a couple both worked outside the home, it was usual for the man to sit down once he arrived back in the evening and wait to be looked after.

The woman, who had often done shopping on the way back, would then make and serve the evening meal, later on doing any housework  that needed seeing to as well.

If there was a family car, then the man would usually take that to do his travelling, while the woman caught the bus.

This did not seem unfair, it was just the way it was, given that our mothers did everything in the home.

.

In the sixties we saw the rise of feminism and the burning of the bra’s but I don’t know how much things have actually changed nowadays.

I have a horrible feeling that there are women all over the place who are worn out trying to have home, family and career, and who are totally strung out with the stress of it all.

It cannot be easy to juggle so many balls in the air at the same time.

.

I had the opportunity to stay at home to look after my own children and although we did not get many holidays and did not always have a car or new clothes, I would not change it.

Once you get into the right mind-set it is nice to have less stress, but I know that it does not suit everyone.

.

Big H is having a lie-in this morning after yesterday’s excitement so I don’t know what our day will bring, but that is part of the fun of it all.

Perhaps we will win the lottery, or a long lost relative will leave me a freehold tropical paradise complete with a beach house and a boat, or perhaps I will just catch flu and feel very sorry for myself!

Enjoy yours immensely, you won’t get this particular Thursday again.

LOL

Jaksie, x.
