All Friday Not Touched Yet.
Hello,
.
It is 11.30am and I have only just got around to doing my blog.
.
I got up early as usual, but, as I was cleaning my teeth, I suddenly decided to paint the floor again, in one of the bedrooms.
.
I do not buy special floor paints though.
I just get some good quality emulsion, in this case a deep red matt emulsion from the Crown Period range, and I add lots of water to it.
.
I used to buy a different make of emulsion but this year I could not find it anymore, so this Crown is the nearest one I could find. I am sure that it will be equally as good.
.
Because of all the damage done by the various workmen that we have recently had in, I have had to repaint all of the stairs.
Just think….if it had been expensive carpeting!!!!
It has always proved to last for years, because I first painted onto bare, raw floorboards, and I have always used a deep red.
This was because we could not afford carpets when we first moved in, and I have never changed the colour.
.
I did the same thing on the two flights of stairs twenty years ago, and for the same reason.
When I had finished them, I used a stencil to paint a small bunch of flowers upon both sides of every tread and then fancier, larger flower motifs at the top and bottom of the staircases.
I did these in Japlac gold lacquer.
This whole paint job lasts for years and years before I need to touch it up, and it has been so successful that there would be no point in changing it.
.
Friends of mine have paid for their stairs to be re-carpeted more than once in the same length of time, and they are always having to clean them and nag about mud and spills.
.
My stairs don’t take a moment to hoover and anything that gets spilled can be wiped off at any time..
I cannot be bothered to start telling Big H to stop treading mud or filth upstairs, or to tell him off for spilling tea or beer on the stairs, which he does all the time.
Life is, as I always say, far too short.
.
Also, we used to have big dogs who were always muddy from walks and who were always dropping lots of hair.
They were lots of work but I would never have been without them.
We miss having dogs now.
.
But, let’s get back to the subject of my floorboards.
So, cheap, decorative, easy to care for, easy to do and easy to renew…and very stylish…what more could you want?
.
I am now off to see if it is dry.
If it is, I shall be moving stuff back in this afternoon.
.
Enjoy your day,
J
