Hey,
.
Good morning to yourself.
I hope that your Monday is buoyed up by memories of an amazingly good weekend, as Mondays can be hard to get through sometimes!
.
My morning is fine, but why wouldn’t it be, there is nothing at all that I have to do today.
Of course I did have to feed the birds but that is a definite plus for me, and one day they may be grateful enough not to peck out my eyes the first time that they find me fast asleep in the garden!
.
Yesterday, at about 2.30, when the Sunday paper was all read out and the Sudoku had been conquered by Big H, he suddenly asked if I would like to go for a drive as it was definitely looking brighter.
When I asked “Where to?”, the reply was “Does it matter!”
.
It didn’t, so off we went, with the top down.
It was wonderful because the weather just got even better and we made our way across The Pennines.
The hills were lovely to see.
Gently folded in shades of brown and green, with the odd far off hills sometimes covered in misty grey where it was raining.
We could hear the birds and smell the various scents and farmyard smells as we went.
.
Eventually we came to Alston, which is a very quaint and picturesque place, all cobbled streets and old stone buildings gathered higgledy-piggledy all the way up the steep hill to the village square.
To make it perfect, even though it was a Sunday and well after 4pm, there were antique shops still open for browsing.
.
It turned out to be very profitable searching too.
We ended up with a book, a print of fish for a gift to one of Big H’s fishing friends and a lovely blue and white ironstone washstand set (that is a big dish and the jug to sit in it), which I shall put on the windowsill in one of the top bedrooms.
It will look stunning with a casual arrangement of something like Hydrangea flower heads or Lilac in it.
.
Then we came home and cooked a duck so that we could enjoy aromatic crispy duck with wraps, plum sauce and sticks of cucumber and onions.
It was delicious with a decent bottle of red wine.
.
After that we whiled the evening away with our library books and a couple of warming glasses of whisky.
A well spent and enjoyable day was had by all!
.
If today is half as good I will be well pleased.
Have a good one yourself.
J,x.
