Big Day.

Hey,

.

So we are here yet again.

Enjoying a day off from the real world.

.

Faced by a new holiday Monday, as yet untouched by human hands.

Boldly going where no Trekkie has gone before, just like the star ship Enterprise.

.

Of course, there is no viable alternative, is there!

.

So, what shall you do today, before eventually returning to yet another day at the workface of whatever particular mine of industry you work in.

Look on the bright side, there is more holiday time off next weekend, and a royal wedding spectacle if you want it.

.

Talking of weddings.

Did you watch the ‘My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding’ series a while ago.

I did, and I found it absolutely fascinating to see another, usually closed, way of life.

.

I did read later on that quite a few of the gypsy community regretted that some of their members had become involved with the programmes.

They apparently felt that the programmes were imbalanced and showed them in a bad light.

.

Well, that censure has not prevented another one-off being filmed for showing this week, on Channel 4 at 9pm on Thursday 28th.

It is as a sort of alternative Royal Wedding….entitled My Big Fat Royal Gypsy Wedding….although it does not actually concern real gypsy royalty.

.

This spin-off is about the marriage of two young gypsies.

They are Paddy and Mary, and they have been courting for about three years, which seems to be a bit longer than is usual.

At 23 years of age, they also seem to be a lot older than is usual for a gypsy couple, judging by the very young girls seen in the recent series, who were longing and planning for their day as a princess from their early childhood and seemed to usually marry in their middle teens.

.

It was fascinating to see the amount of time, planning, dreams and money that was unstintingly invested in each young bride’s special dress for her big day.

Every one trying to outdo any wedding dress which had been worn before her own.

.

Anyway, the new couple being filmed, are meeting the challenge of having a huge wedding, and a huge dress, to rival the magnificence of that weekend’s most ‘Royal Affair’ in London.

.

I am very much looking forward to watching it….the gypsy wedding that is!

.

So, you know what they say, be there or be square!

J,x.
