Bloody Japanese

Hi

.

Now Japan sucks, just like China.

.

I was pretty disgusted to read that after a 25 year worldwide ban on commercial whaling, things are going to change.

.

Japan is now taking steps to overturn the prohibition.

Japan, Norway and Iceland carry out whaling at the present time, and have done so since 1986 when the ban was introduced, having killed approximately 35,000 of the remaining creatures since then.

.

The IWC ( International Whaling Commission) is thinking of allowing whaling to be made  legal again, which will also mean that other countries may also decide to begin whaling too.

.

Why does this sort of thinking prevail.

Why are such irreplaceable creatures treated like goods on a shelf in a supermarket….just because there are some back on the shelf, let’s continue to make money because there will be a new load along soon.

It is such shortsighted and deplorable behaviour.

Why can’t the whales just be left alone now and conserved, why does their long term survival have to be put at risk again.

.

These are not tins of beans, they are are an irreplaceable and beautiful resource.

Even if we believe that whalers keep to their quotas and rules vigorously …and we know that they do not….why do we risk it.

As usual Britain opposes whaling, but Denmark is thought to be in favour. so no veto will be put in place by the EU because no consensus of opinion will be agreed upon by all the member states.

Unfortunately the stupidity of joining the EU in the first place is underlined by the fact that any vote we take about anything can be rendered useless, because we have to vote in a block with the EU.

.

So,in June there will be a meeting of the IWC in Morocco.

America is expected to approve the proposals put forward, because they do not want Japan to veto renewal for indigenous peoples in Alaska, which the Japanese may well do if they do not get what they want.

Likewise, Denmark wants their people in the Faroes and Greenland to be allowed to continue catching their quota of whales too.

.

Under the new rules it will be legal to kill species such as Sperm, Minke, Bryde’s, Sei and Fin.

The Minke of course was the species described by a Japanese whaling official in 2001 as ‘the cockroach of the ocean.’

No worries about the Japanese Whaling officials not having the ‘ right conservation attitude’ then!

Obviously the fate of the whales is in caring hands there.

Japan has also been accused of using foreign aid to co-erce small land locked nations such as Mongolia, Dominica and St. Lucia, among others, to strengthen their vote for whaling.

Perhaps someone should point out to them that the Japanese can reproduce a lot quicker and easier than the whales can.

.

It is all such short-term, greedy, scorched earth type thinking that it is depressing.

Soooooo, before you go, trying for a lighter note for you….

What does a whale of a time mean?
