Catfish Noodling. Extreme Sport.
Hey,
.
Good morning to you, from a place where it is bloody freezing and we have frost coating everything this morning,
Oh dear, I do not like the look of this at all.
This is not very tropical!!!
.
So, let’s take our minds off it all.
Here is another extreme sport for you, although this one seems to take nerve rather than any unusual skills….except for having two arms.
.
This sport is called Catfish Noodling, which is a bit like our method of tickling fish* in order to catch them, although that is a quiet sport and obviously more pleasant for both participants.
.
The Noodlers catch their catfish by by a very unusual and potentially dangerous method, whereby they search out underwater holes where catfish are living and then stick their arms firmly into the holes.
The catfish then bites down and will not let go, therefore enabling the person to pull out their arm and catch the big fish.
.
Although there can be other creatures like turtles or snakes in the holes, the risk can be reduced by poking a stick into the hole first.
These intrepid ‘anglers’ say that they can distinguish between the bite of a catfish as against the reaction of another creature.
.
This process can be a tiring business as some of these fish can weigh a tremendous amount, and there is also the danger of being drowned or seriously hurt.
