Cats.
Hi Peeps,
.
it is a grand morning here today, with hazy blue skies and sunshine and HEAT!
Now that September is approaching we have to make the most of every possible weather opportunity because last winter was an altogether atrocious one.
However today is fabulous and there to be enjoyed to the max.
.
There is still not a lot happening here for us as Big H is still very very tired a lot of the time but we manage the odd enjoyable walk.
It is especially enjoyable when we meet our cat friends as we wander around and stop to have a few words with them and give them a good scratch and stroke.
They are not much for intelligible conversation but they can make their needs very clear!
.
My best friend when I was growing up was a cat!
.
It is funny how even an animal that belonged to someone else can stick firmly in your mind for a lifetime.
When we first moved here many years ago we used to see a beautiful, huge cat that belonged to an old lady, spending a lot of time stroking him whenever we met him.
He was extremely good natured and very friendly and would be happy for me to pick him up and have him lie in my arms while I talked to him.
This went on for years until suddenly he was never there when we went past the house.
Even now I still hope that he was OK and that someone took good care of him if the old lady had died or gone into a home.
I never knew his name but we called him Quilty because of the way he would spread himself over everything.
.
Silly really, when there are so many other things in this world to worry about!
.
There was also a fine black cat that used to visit us regularly in our previous house.
He was totally black with a huge amount of black fur and the most magnificent huge eyes.
We nicknamed him Tosca because he was so wonderfully theatrical.
He did have a horrible habit of suddenly turning into a tight glove with sharp claws when you were stroking his stomach….but hey, nobody is perfect!
I wonder if he came back for a long time, looking for us.
.
Now that I cannot have animals anymore I miss them a lot so it’s a lovely thing to share other people’s.
And look on the bright side….no vet’s bills either!
.
So, time to stop being maudlin and get on with my mostly fur-free day.
Enjoy yours.
