Cut Price Surgery In India.
Hey,
.
There is news for all those people who are stuck on the British NHS waiting lists.
.
In Bangalore, India, there is a state of the art health facility called Narayana Health City, which is mainly staffed with surgeons who have been trained in their profession at NHS hospitals.
.
Their hospital was visited recently by the business secretary Vince Cable, on a trip to Bangelore, and he was quoted as saying that he found it to be very impressive.
During his visit they made him an offer of ‘cut price’ operations for any Uk patients who are willing to travel to India to avoid being stuck on NHS waiting lists here in the UK.
.
There is a tremendous saving to be had by going abroad because they offer operations such as hole-in -the-heart surgery for about £2,000 instead of about £25,000 on the British NHS.
They are offering to take UK patients who are waiting to undergo procedures such as paediatric surgery, cardiac surgery and cancer treatments.
They suggest that British patients on waiting lists should be given a choice of continuing to wait for surgery in the UK or be allowed to opt for immediate surgery in Bangalore.
This would allow people needing procedures such as hip-replacements to get back to a normal life quickly while saving the beleaguered NHS a great deal of money.
.
The hospital complex seems to offer most things actually, including plastic surgery.
.
At the moment they are performing about 30 heart-bypass operations each day.
They often have continuous ‘production line‘ operations, where different doctors carry out different stages of the operations and then pass along the patient to the next doctor for the following part of the procedure.
.
Having spoken to various people myself who are on hospital waiting lists, with all of the worry and sometimes pain, I think that there are probably a lot of people who would be very interested in quick, high standard surgery.
.
However, a cautionary note.
British hospitals already contain dangerous super-bugs which make every hospital stay potentially even more dangerous to health.
Experts now say that a new super-bug, resistant to the strongest antibiotics is now being found in British hospitals.
These bacteria, which make an enzyme called NDM-I, are thought to have actually come back with NHS patients who have gone abroad to Pakistan and India for treatments like cosmetic surgery.
.
NDM-I can exist in bacteria like E-coli.
This makes them resistant to even the most powerful antibiotics such as carbapenems.
Unfortunately this could eventually cause us to end up with infections which spread rapidly and are just about impossible to treat.
.
What price good health.
