Egypt Is Revealing The Eighth Wonder Of The World
Hey,
.
Another week almost done now.
My, how quickly they pass, the older you get.
.
We have a grey day here again….but why change something that works!
Seriously though, we have some hazy sunshine and the temperature is definitely rising nicely.
So summer is coming….slowly!
.
I think that we are overusing the exclamation marks again Jaksie.
So stop it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
.
Did you read about the marvellous new excavation that is taking place in Egypt.
I think that it will become another one of the real wonders of the world.
It sounds exceptional in the extreme, if done properly, although experts worldwide seem to be somewhat worried about the cavalier methods of excavation being employed.
.
Everything is being done as quickly as possible in order to begin showing the new find as a tourist attraction in the city of Luxor.
Foreign experts say that a trench which is 100 yards wide has been cut through heavily populated areas of what was once the city of Thebes to reveal the site, destroying some irreplaceable historic buildings in the process.
People who were displaced by this work have been forcibly relocated in their hundreds over the past few years.
Many of the local population have been resisting the evictions and say that the government is using strong arm tactics such as shutting of their basic services such as the water and electricity.
Although the government have stated that they have put aside money to recompense those who do not want to be resettled in new homes outside the city, the people who are resisting say that the sums being offered to them are derisory.
.
Continued excavations over the next couple of years will fully reveal the what is being called the Avenue Of The Sphinxes, which was built by Amenhotep 111.
This stretches for two miles, is 75 yards in width, and is lined with many hundreds of the stone sphinxes ( thought to be about 1,350 in total, half of which have already been uncovered).
Sadly, any damaged statues are going to be repaired to make them complete again. URGHH!
It is planned to open the first part of the excavations in a few weeks, bringing in a great deal more money to an area already popular as a tourist hotspot because of the beautiful temples with their painted columns.
.
Scarily enough, there are said to be plans for a tourist monorail, tourist villages and re-enacted processions!
Although the idea of treating such rare and awesome historical beauty like a Disney theme park makes me shudder, I do have one though which I would find intriguing.
You could have a yearly enactment of the original procession along the avenue, which could be watched from a great distance away.
How about using lasers to re-enact the whole thing in a ghostly sort of way, like an imprint from the past rather than a showy and horrible farce using historical extras.
.
Isn’t that a fine idea!
And all my own.
Fees to be paid to me please for this wonderful, and far more suitable idea!
.
Oh no, Egyptian Government, what do you mean, you have just suddenly thought of it too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
.
.
Even Unesco are worried.
Unesco is responsible for many worldwide heritage sites including the temples of Karnack and Luxor which are situated at either end of the avenue which is now being revealed.
This route was constructed about 3,400 years ago, and joined together the two huge temples, allowing a yearly religious procession to take place.
After the fifth century it was no longer used and was eventually buried with silt, before being built upon by future generations.
It has said that the Egyptian government is rushing to reveal the avenue too quickly.
This cannot have been done with proper rigour.
Such heavy bulldozing has been revealed by the levelling of the ground which has taken place and by the fact that it has left obvious marks upon the revealed stone blocks.
.
However I am expecting things to continue as the Egyptian Government wishes, so no doubt the New Sphinxathon Theme Park will be opening for business in a couple of years.
See You There!
Jaksie,x.
