From Roy Rogers To Keanu Reeves.
Hello,
.
Wednesday again, so tonight I get to watch American Idol.
It is my new regular thing to watch although it is not a patch on the British version because I have never heard of any of the American guest stars and they all sing really rubbish songs.
Isn’t it strange that there seems to be such a difference in both presentation, content and humour between the UK and the USA.
.
You would think that we would be so very similar but it is not true at all, at least in my case.
Even American sit-coms seem innocent, and not greatly ironic or subversive enough for me.
They do not seem to have ever had anything like the old Monty Python or Red Dwarf series, although I could well be wrong….it would not be the first time!
.
Having said that, there is nothing wrong with American films at all, except that sometimes the endings are wrong and far too sugary for me….and sometimes happen too quickly, as if time is up….so finish!
.
When I was a child and there was no television or incoming entertainment, we mainly had to amuse ourselves.
Except for going to the Pictures on a a Saturday morning to watch the latest Roy Rogers, Flash Gordon or Lone Ranger episodes.
That was something to really look forward too and it would be fuel for our games on the streets for the next week.
.
Now and again my mother would leave my Dad and my brother at home and take me to see a film, in technicolour, in the evening show at our local cinema.
They were mostly Hollywood musicals like Seven Brides For Seven Brothers, starring her favourite Howard Keel, or stuff with Errol Flynn, Fernando Lamas or John Wayne as the hero.
I loved that because it all seemed more real and wonderful than our own real lives, especially after the war.
.
Mum never did get over her passion for the lovely John Wayne, even when he was an old guy dying of cancer, she still thought he was a real man!
I think that in her dreams he must have come home to her and opened the front door shouting “Woman of the house” just like he did in The Quiet Man.
.
.
I don’t dream of sex with film stars much myself….more’s the pity.
If I ever do I shall start with Keanu Reeves!
.
Upon that desirable note I shall finish for the day and go to fetch my breakfast which will be a croissant….how different is that….perhaps my inexplicable craze for Warburton’s is finally over.
Thank goodness.
.
Have a good one.
J,x.
