Hedgehog. A Day In The Life.
Hello,
.
Yesterday we went out for a long walk, as is thankfully quite the usual for us these days.
.
And the day before, while going out for exactly the same walk, I had spotted a smallish lump in the middle of the road, which appeared to be a squashed hedgehog.
For some reason I went over to look at it more closely and saw that the one visible eye still seemed to look bright.
.
I called Big H over and he agreed with me….in fact when he leaned over the creature, it visibly flinched.
We decided to pick it up and put it on the grass at the far side of the road, near the hedge, hidden behind a big bush.
.
So, yesterday, as we got up to that part of the road again, I said to big H that I wondered what had happened to the hedgehog.
No sooner had I finished speaking, than I looked over to the same spot and there it was again, out in the middle of the road amongst the traffic.
.
We could not just leave it to get squashed again, so Big H picked it up and we brought it back to put safely in our garden.
.
By then it liked Big H so much that it did not want to get off his hand for ages, but eventually it did toddle away for a good look around.
.
Once we had gone off again and finished our walk, I used the computer to look up facts about hedgehogs on Google.
.
Apparently they do not like to be kept in a garden because they are kept at their most healthy by wandering about 2-3 kilometres every night, just poking around and exploring places and finding lots of caterpillars and beetles to eat.
.
So, that’s today arranged for us then!
We will have to find our guest and then take him along to a huge area of woods and fields ….at which point we shall let him go to find food and, hopefully, true love.
.
Everybody say Ahhhhh.
.
See ‘ya,
Jaksie,x.
