Heatwave High Pressure Causes Problems In The South.

Hi,

.

There has been very dramatic weather today, during this unusual heat wave we are experiencing.

.

At about 2pm today the Gatwick Airport control tower was reportedly struck by lightning.

This caused a temporary failure of the ground control systems, which resulted in there being flight suspensions for a short period, and possibly some further flight delays.

.

At the same time there were reports that a 21 storey block of flats in Bermondsey, on the Arnold Estate, was also thought to have been hit by lightning.

When fire broke out, about 40 firemen responded to the emergency calls.

.

A fire on the 17th floor was bought under control a couple of hours later, and it is reported that one lady needed treatment for smoke inhalation.

.

There has also been torrential rain in the South this afternoon, and other lightening strikes which have caused train delays.

.

Fans at Wimbledon and the Oval were also deluged by the sudden downpour.

.

One unchanging thing about British weather….it is always changing!
