Hiroshima. Lest We Forget.

Hi,

.

There has just been a commemoration in Hiroshima, which was in remembrance of the 66th anniversary of the Atomic Bomb which was unexpectedly dropped upon that unlucky city by America at the end of WWII.

It took place on August 6th, 1945 at 8.15am.

.

Hundreds of thousands were killed in the blast and it’s aftermath.
.

.

On August 9th this was followed by a second bomb which was dropped upon Nagasaki….then came the surrender.

.

The effects of the atomic bombs caused devastating genetic damage which has continued to affect the following generations.

.

At this year’s remembrance ceremony lanterns containing written messages of peace and love were lighted before being set upon the River Motoyasu, to float downriver through the city.

.

The memory is kept fresh by yearly occasions such as this one, and also by the annual rememberance which is carried out in the space around an A Bomb damaged building which has been specially preserved as a symbol.
.

.

The people lower their heads in prayer and thought as pigeons are released into the sky above them as a mark of the continued regrets and wishes for future peace.

.

Since the recent atomic meltdowns after the tsunami there is now great feeling in Japan that atomic power and it’s various applications, is untrustworthy, and to be avoided.
