How To Make Absolutely Sure That You Get A Golden Globe.

Hi,

.

So hopefully your weekend is proceeding well.

Mine is damp but fine thank you!

.

So, with reference to a past post about the planned sale of lots of personal items belonging to the superstar John Wayne, who died of stomach cancer 30+ years ago in 1972, after making 250 films.

.

It took place in Los Angeles, California, over two days last week and made a phenomenal sum of over $5 million, a percentage of which will benefit the John Wayne Cancer Foundation.

It proved how many people are long time fans, desperate to own a small piece of Wayne memorabilia, with enthusiastic bidding taking place for every item in the 750 piece catalogue.

.

Some amazingly high bids were offered for some choice items such as the star’s coveted Golden Globe which was awarded for the True Grit movie which he starred in in 1969…. a wonderful film indeed!

The competition for the globe closed at a bid of $143,400, which is about £92,000

.

The biggest surprise would seem to have been his Green Beret, which was part of his film costume for The Green Berets, made in 1968, which went for an amazing $179,000…about £115,000.

.

Trailer for The Green Berets….starring Jong Wayne and his very desirable and valuable beret.
.

.

The amount obtained from the eye-patch he sported True Grit was meagre by comparison, the bidding being completed at almost $48,000….about £31,000

.

It may be a recession but there is obviously money out there for rare items which really stir people up.

.

.

No doubt John would have been proud!
