I Don’t Feel SAD Today.

Hey,

.

We have yet another wonderful morning here, with a vivid blue sky and splendid sunshine to boot, absolutely wonderful.

There are still cars going by outside which have snow on them but I don’t care.

If you have not really seen the sun for so long it is a real treat.

When I popped out to the Spar to get some Warburton’s Potato Pancakes ( yes, I am still obsessed by them, but there are many far more dangerous obsessions to have), I noticed how much more cheerful, pleasant and smiling everyone is.

Do you know, I am beginning to wonder if we don’t all suffer from SAD in this place.

It must be dreadful in Scandinavia where it is dark for weeks on end in the winter.  I wonder if they have higher rates of depression than lighter countries!

.

Anyway, to get away from our national obsession with the weather.

.

Hey, I have just thought what I must be making the UK sound like, to people who have never visited here .

.

They will be imagining loads of SAD people, sitting around in the freezing cold, eating up millions of Warburton’s, while discussing the weather 24 hours a day.

.

Quite correct actually, that is just exactly what it is like!

.

No, No, don’t cancel your holiday here, because after a week of it you will be just exactly the same too.

That’s how we conquered the world once upon a time, nobody took us seriously until it was far too late.

.

Big H and I are going out today, to visit a local jewellery designer, to find out if they can repair a ring that I inherited from my mother.

It is very pretty but she must have given it a dreadful bash at some time, which has left it with some broken pieces in the setting that supports the stones, and one of the stones is actually cracked and therefore needs replacing totally.

I fear that the jeweller will say that it is far too awkward and fragile to fix but I have got my fingers well crossed because it would be nice to wear something that is so sentimental.

.

Big H is still getting up very late most days so I think that I had better go and wake him up now or else we will not get out of the house until the afternoon and I always feel irritated if it gets too late in the day.

I like to do stuff in the morning and then if I get any sudden ideas there is still lots of time left.

I have however learned to live with someone who is more like a tortoise than a hare, so I have to control my natural wish for everything to be done yesterday.

It has taught me to be a lot more patient than I naturally am, which is a good thing or I would have murdered him a long time ago!

.

Have a good one yourself.

Don’t worry if you mess it up, because you have another one, all untouched, waiting for you tomorrow.

I hope!

.

LOL

PS.  There was an interesting squib quoted in the Sunday Times this week.

It was apparently reported in the Camden New Journal that bus passengers travelling on the No 24 were totally amazed when their driver suddenly knelt down and started praying, leaving the engine running.

It appears that when he stopped the bus abruptly and spread out his fluorescent jacket upon the floor, at least one of the bemused passengers thought that somebody must have been sick.

This would certainly be a first, if given as an excuse for being late for work!

    Hey Jackie -

Don’t feel bad about the weather complaints, I dish one out everyday all year long because our weather has been an absolute nightmare in the summer (rain and humidity) and, well, obviously a nightmare in the winter as well (-35 C makes not for a fun stroll).

We complain everyday about the weather, we discuss it before every meeting at work because it’s the one thing that bonds us before we fight over other things :)

however, you’re quite right in assuming depression rises in wintertime with less light and the like. When new people move to our northern territories, something like 60% suffers from depression and insomnia. some come back quickly, others develop problems, and some are just fine.

If i read your blog before I visited the UK, I would have definitely made a stop over at some of the place you’ve mentioned, and made a note of finding the Warburton’s potato pancakes.

on the whole, I find English people (well, English, scots, northerners, etc..) very friendly. I’d even go as far to say they’re more filled with life and joy than us.
i like the UK so much that I’m always thinking of coming back for a longer stay.
as soon as our airports are defrosted ;)

    have a good day xx

      Greetings Nelly,

Always good to get your comments!

Judging by your information, I think we British should be grateful we do not have to put up with your weather, which sounds terrifying.

Britain is indeed beautiful as long as you are not looking to find sunshine, but it is wonderful when we get it.

I did not think my descriptions of the Warburton’s would be tempting anyone, as they are a bit like hot cardboard, especially so as I do not put anything on them at all.
It has become an inexplicable obsession, probably on a par with people who like to eat coal, but definately better than a desire to eat my own feet….or my own hair…or even my own feet AND my own hair!

Have a good day yourself…and an excellent tomorrow too.
      Jaksie.
