I Wandered On The Sandy Shore.

I wandered on the sandy shore
When someone shouted ‘Help’
I looked around but all I saw
Was sand and sea and kelp
.
I wandered on a little more
There was a second call
It seemed to come from over there
Behind the old sea wall
.
I wandered on to have a look
And then what did I see
A mermaid crouching in the sand
And gazing up at me
.
‘Please help me cut this netting
It has tangled me so tight
It caught me in the water
And I nearly died with fright’
.
I cut her loose and carried her
Back to the sea so blue
I’ve kept it all a secret
So it’s just between us two
.
