Iris DeMent. True Grit Film.

Good day.

.

.

I am intending to see the new 2010 film version of the John Wayne classic just as soon as I can.

.

The original film was great and Wayne’s performance as Rooster Cogburn was most excellent indeed.

Cowboy films are not my favourite type of movie but it had just about everything to offer, including wonderful scenery.

.

Jeff Bridges has always been one of my favourite actors….and crushes….for many years, so it should be as great the second time around.

.

It seems that the soundtrack has been very well chosen to complement the story, especially the final song.

This is a 19th century gospel song called ‘Leaning On The Everlasting Arms.

It is sung by Arkansas-born Iris DeMent, a woman with a raw old fashioned sort of voice, ideally suited.

.

Although obviously not to everyone’s taste, it has moved many viewers as it is played at the end of the film as the now grown-up heroine, Mattie Ross, moves across the landscape to accompany Rooster on his final journey.
