Israel Kamakawiwo’ole. A Hawaiian Legend.

Hi,

.

Yes, I know, you are feeling really spoiled…. and so you should, being in receipt of four posts today.

However, thinking about my favourite music earlier on today, brought back to mind this particular singer.

He had a very pure sound and brought a totally new feel to the old classic song ‘Over The Rainbow’, which is miles away from the Judy Garland version, which he fused with Louis Armstrong’s ‘What A Wonderful World’.

.

.

Unfortunately Israel died at the age of only 38 on 26th June 1997.

His death was caused  by respiratory failure, not helped by the fact that he was morbidly obese, sometime reaching a weight of over 750 pounds.

.

He was born on 20th May 1959 on the Hawaiian island of Oahu.

His first solo album was released when he was 31 and in 1993 he made another album called ‘Facing Future’ which quickly became no.1 on the Billboard Music Charts.

.

He was a truly engaging performer and a real legendary Hawaiian, leaving behind a wife and daughter plus a legacy of amazing music.

.

If he is new to you, I hope you enjoyed this introduction .

J.
