It’s A Mad World.
Hi,
.
Now this is what I call a morning!
We have a completely blue sky from one corner to the other, hazy sunshine and a complete absence of dampness, apart from the areas in the shadows.
.
Of course it is still very early but the moment is perfect.
.
I hope that you are feeling fine upon this particular Wednesday.
Lest you forget, you are almost halfway through the week, and that has to be good.
.
This is something to follow on from the ‘Stress’ posts a small while ago, stress being somewhat of a buzz word at the moment.
.
There has been research carried out in Sweden to follow the effects of mid-life stress on women.
The research followed almost 1,500 women, who were aged from 38 to 60 when the study began.
It took the form of three surveys, beginning in 1968, to try to assess the levels of psychological stress and it’s eventual results on the subjects.
It was discovered that women who repeatedly reported periods of anxiety and stress had up to double the chance to develop dementia, such as Alzheimer’s, than the women who did not report similar stress levels.
.
In this research stress was defined as….anxiety….sleeping problems….a sense of fear, irritation, nervousness or tension, which lasted a month or more.
.
The risk of developing Dementia was found to be about 65% higher if women suffered stress frequently in middle age.
.
In the course of the research taking place, over the three surveys in 1968, 1974 and 1980, it was discovered that 161 of the women developed Dementia, the chances of which increased in women describing stress in more than one survey.
Although this is interesting, and points to middle-age stress being a factor in the development of dementia in older people, as well as it helping to increase the chances of cardiovascular diseases, there needs to be further research on the subject in order to substantiate the results.
.
There has been a lot of research done upon Dementia and it’s various causes.
Recently there has been evidence found which also connects depression to Dementia.
.
I would imagine that for some old people, being confined to their homes without much interest or social interaction, along with health issues, is a very bad auger for continued good mental health.
I also think that constant boredom is a dangerous and toxic state to be in.
But old age does not have to be that way, as this totally amazing post proves
.
So, have an interesting and stimulating day while you still can!
And remember to avoid the Secret Police!
And the Jam And Bread.
And the Special Offers.
