IWC Corruption Review.
Hi,
.
It is a beautiful morning here, with blue skies, sunshine and birdsong.
Wonderful.
.
Something else wonderful has happened.
Do you remember my posts about the bribery and vote rigging that the Sunday Times discovered and reported on recently.
Well, there has been a good result from their expose.
.
Officials from Nations all over the world have taken notice….or should I say ‘have been forced to take notice’ of the rampant corruption and vote-buying by Japan.
On the 25th of June the IWC decided to get behind a British proposal to review the IWC rules.
Hopefully this will result in the abuse being stopped.
.
There have been accusations of bribery to influence voting for many years now but the secret investigations by the newspaper were impossible to cover up and ignore.
They even found proof that the chairman of the Morocco meeting, an Anthony Liverpool, was being provided with luxury hotel accommodation, paid for secretly by the Japanese.
.
The IWC meeting last week was about Japan’s wish to end the present 24 year moratorium on commercial whaling.
Luckily they and their supporters were unable to push through their proposals.
.
Of course it still means is that Iceland, Norway and Japan will continue as normal until next year’s meeting, so thousands of whales will still continue to be slaughtered for ‘scientific research’.
.
A gentleman called Dr Simon Brockington is going to take over as IWC secretary immediately, and he will begin to clean up the IWC.
Australia and New Zealand are strongly behind reform.
They are pushing for an outside body to be involved in the reform and are trying to strengthen the powers of the IWC.
.
It is noticeable that the man I have just mentioned, Anthony Liverpool, was still allowed to chair last week’s meeting even though his £4,000 hotel bill was paid by a Japanese travel company, which was totally against the rules.
.
All of the countries, who were recorded and filmed admitting to taking bribes to sell their votes to Japan, such as those from the Pacific and east Caribbean Islands and the other pro-whaling west African countries, just get away with their greed and willingness to destroy our whales for bribes of money and prostitutes.
.
Will the situation change during this year of tightening up, or will the corruption go more deeply undercover to sell out our remaining whales .
.
Video….Whale Wars And Bribery.
.
Sad stuff.

…and well done the Sunday Times to uncover evidence which could not be swept under the table so that business/corruption could go on as usual.
That is newspaper reporting at it’s best!
