Laziness Is A Slippery Slope.
Hi.
.
Today we have a pretty morning here.
The sun is just pouring over the skyline and it must have been raining heavily during the night, because all of the slate roofs are black and wet.
The sunlight is reflecting off the the tiles and it looks beautiful.
Some of the windows are also being caught, and they are reflecting so brightly that they hurt the eyes.
It is like a Disney stage set.
All we need now is to see the figure od Mary Poppins and her umbrella, flying high up in the sky, and I will know for sure that I am in some Alternative Universe.
.
This morning, I decided to go down and see if the Spar shop was open yet, in order to buy myself some Warburton’s Potato Pancakes for breakfast.
Yesterday I had a slice of granary toast with Marmite on it, but I did not really enjoy it very much, so today I wanted to start as I mean to go on…and have everything I want, when I want it.
Short of committing murder I intend to have things my way if possible.
It is not bad to put yourself first now and again, but I actually try for it more frequently than that, just to keep my hand in.
.
I met an old man this morning, on his slow way over to the Spar to get his morning paper.
I felt quite distracted because of the state of his shirt.
He had drops of egg and coffee all down the front, and then I noticed that his trousers were very much in need of a good wash.
.
I have noticed this before with older people. This is by no means the first time I have been distracted during conversations.
I think that as people get older they begin to be lazy with themselves.
.
There is one older lady here who has a spotless and shining house. I know this because she proudly tells you about how hard she works to keep it that way.
.
She is telling me this whilst I am staring in horrified fascination at all the gunge, biscuit crumbs and detritus caught in between all of her teeth.
There are also a few course black hairs sprouting angrily out of her chin.
Why!
.
I think that once some people age, and they become slower and stiffer, and they can eventually grow lazy.
It begins with thinking that they cannot be bothered to have a bath, it is too much to face today, and anyway they are not going out and no one ever calls..
One every two days is enough.
No one notices, besides it is better for the skin when it is old. It can get sensitive and itchy then anyway.
Then it may slowly happen even less often.
.
Then it seems OK to put on yesterday’s clothes, because doing wash is tiring, and they smell OK.
.
Hair washing and drying tires out the arms.
As long as you comb hair properly, and fasten it up tight, it looks fine.
.
And so it goes.
.
Of course soon it is noticeable.
And, of course, soon people notice.
.
I think that old people have plenty of time to waste, they are rich in time, so however long a personal task takes it is still well worth doing.
I think that the older we get, the more rigid we must become in certain matters.
.
Baths must be had. Hair must be washed. Clothes must be clean. Teeth, skin, nails, ears etc. must be rigorously attended to, along with eyebrows, sprouting hairs and makeup and deodorants.
It is important to stay current and modern, and to avoid becoming stuck in one frame of mind, fashion, music or opinions.
.
Young people are mostly lovely.
They are friendly, fun, curious and ready to have a laugh, and pretty good to look at too.
Not many hairy nostrils and false teeth in that neck of the woods.
So don’t lump them all together and avoid them.
.
Years ago a friend dropped her shopping on the street.
She was flustered because everything was rolling away in every direction.
Then, horror of horrors, what should she see coming towards her but a huge, leather clad, tatooed and pierced biker type, and he was staring right at her.
Frozen, she stood there, terrified, thinking she was now going to be thoroughly mugged or murdered on the spot.
.
This terrifying person then took her bag and picked up all of her shopping for her, told her not to worry in the most beautiful voice, before walking her across the road and handing her the shopping bag again.
Afterwards, describing it all, she seemed to almost have a crush on him, and could not get over how wonderful he had been to her.
.
Make up your mind new every time.
.
It matters, we matter. The quality of life of the people around us matters. We must stay pleasant to be around or we will end up lonely.
.
Even if a person was alone for months with no callers, they should always be spruced up mentally and physically, and ready to interact.
Someday a visitor will arrive, and how nice to be looking cool and ready for it, instead of feeling and looking unkempt and dreadful.
It encourages friendships.
.
If things get difficult then people should promptly say so and ask for help.
Or pay for dry cleaning out of the pension. Do without the rubbish things like cake and ready to cook crap, and spend profitably.
.
Look after the diet. How can a body rebuild and replace itself itself regularly, and keep itself healthy, if it is given rubbish building materials to do it with.
I have to admit that I sometimes look in old peoples’ shopping trolleys, and I despair.
After a lifetime of accruing wisdom, why are they eating such disgusting things. There is no value in it at all. It is all rubbish.
.
It is true that UK pensions are tight, but how much does a tin of sardines cost and some decent quality bread to toast it on.
There is nothing wrong with drinking water or black tea, and leaving out all the milk and sugar.
Oatmeal is one of the cheapest things you can buy and it is such a super food.
Look how well the Scots used to survive and fight on it.
.
I read that in Ireland, some of the farmers in the Black Mountains would chew a handful of oats to sustain themselves while milking the cows before breakfast, and they had lovely teeth.
I believe eating it also helps to combat depression.
When I feel the need for somethins sweet, I eat a bowl of porridge with live yogurt and chopped bananas and raisins. It is sweet and it is delicious!
.
Porridge is also great for slimmers because it keeps you feeling full for a very long time.
.
Big H and I do not eat a lot of dairy products as they are very rich to our palates, so we mix our porridge with cold water. Apart from my sweet treat mentioned previously.
.
Big H eats his straight away but I leave mine for a while and it not only goes softer, it makes the water like milk.
If you add dried raisins to it then they have time to get soft too.
.
I am sorry if I am ranting again but I feel disturbed when I see older people letting themselves go.
.
When I talk to women younger than me they say things like “Oh, what does it matter at my age anyway” and I could strangle them…or cry.
.
Of course it matters. It does at any age.
No one minds grungy young people or scruffy students. They are young and beautiful no matter what they do.
Older people are old, and getting older by the day.
It matters.
.
Everyone matters, and everything they do matters, immensely.
.
Always.
.
So, now that I have thoroughly spoilt your day.
What can I say.
Well, I don’t care.
You should have stopped halfway through.
.
Love
J
When I used to put weight on, I would eat a big bowl of frozen peas after I had run boiling water over to defrost them.
It was excellent for me and it replaced the rubbish snacks, and it would be good for old people too.
