Merry Christmas to You.
Welcome Dear Peeps,
.
And may I wish you a very happy Christmas.
.
I slept in a little later this morning, mostly due to far too much alcohol last night, but it was a fine Xmas Eve.
.
It is a perfect morning here, with snow on the ground and a pale, gleaming silver/gray sky.
Also a hush of anticipation….in my house anyway!
.
I have done all of my little jobs, so I am just waiting for Big H to get up.
I shall not wake him up until 11.00am because I don’t want him to spend this important day sleeping in his chair.
If he gets up earlier, on his own, then I shall be well pleased.
.
The birds have already been fed with torn up ham sandwiches and left over crisps.
Normally I would not buy crisps for us, but this is a naughty, self indulgent time of year, and I am not that rigid about our diet.
.
The daft birds are loudly squabbling and fighting even as I write this, so not much Christmas spirit there then.
Don’t they know that this is the season of goodwill to all birds, except for turkeys!
.
Yesterday I did get to look in the Army and Navy store, they are quite rare round here so there is only the one, but the stuff was horrible.
All of the half dozen greatcoats were only knee length and not pure wool.
They were mostly made well after the war, not proper Civil Defence coats or anything. so I was well disappointed but I shall keep looking.
Eventually I shall find the perfect long, small-sized item….although by then I shall probably be so old and weak that it will be too heavy for me to wear.
Life’s like that.
.
We were not out very long but I wanted to have a look in T.K max as well, and that extra walk was what tired Big H out..it was my fault for being selfish…Mea Culpa, Mea Culpa.
I would not mind but there was nothing decent there anyway!
.
Actually, I was very pleased yesterday morning.
I had ordered a fisherman’s ganzie from a supplier on the Isle of Guernsey.
These jumpers were originally made for their fishermen, to keep them snug and warm when they were at sea in horrendous conditions.
If carefully cared for they will last thirty or forty years at least.
There is a choice of colours and styles and they are still made by the islanders
I ordered the original style in black.
The peculiarity of the original is that the front and back are exactly the same, so you just put it on without bothering which way round it is. No doubt to save time when the fishermen are dressing in the darkness.
Because the post here in the UK is rubbish I was not expecting it to arrive until well after Christmas, but it was delivered yesterday morning.
How brilliant is that!
So Big H will be opening a proper present once he gets up and about.
.
We always have a bottle of decent bottle of cold Cava and some orange juice on this wonderful morning, so there will be many glasses of Buck’s Fizz getting consumed before the turkey dinner with all the trimmings.
And, of course, Bing Shall Sing!
.
I cannot wait for it all to kick off.
.
Once again, may I wish you a joyful day and at least a few decent pressies….. things that you would actually buy for yourself!
.
Jx.
