More Innovations To help The Blind To See.
Hi,
.
More excellent news for some of those who are presently blind.
.
And excellent news for the policeman, David Rathband, 42, who was blinded when he came across Raoul Moat during his rampage across the North-East in July.
If you remember, he was hit in the face with a direct shotgun blast.
Unfortunately his sight could not be saved.
.
There is now a chance that his sight could be somewhat returned to him by the use of a BrainPort device research at the Ministry of defence,
.
The innovative idea uses the blind person’s tongue to give some sight back,
.
This is done by mounting a camera onto a pair of glasses which the person wears.
These are connected by a cable to a sensor on the tongue.
This is then able to transmit signals from the mounted camera, straight to the brain itself.
.
Of course, the user needs to become acclimatised to using it, but eventually the blind person should see outlines.
.
A soldier who was injured by a grenade in Iran, Lance Corporal Craig Lundberg, was left totally blinded by it.
He has been successfully using the device, managing to become able to walk by himself and identify shapes and even read words.
.
.
.
Mr Rathband is hopeful about the possible benefits. after being asked by the Ministry to take part in a BrainPort trial.
Isn’t it amazing to find out about all of these new developments.
What will we end up being able to do.
