A Safari Feeling.

Hey Folks,

.

Wow, it is dark here today.

It is 10am and we still need all the lights on in the living room, while outside it is gloomy, wet and very very grey….a Gothic sort of day actually.

I think that if vampires were going to be found lurking in the daylight hours, it would be today!

.

Never mind, what can you expect in a northern winter, and in most years it usually continues to get worse very quickly.

So we still have the ice, snow, traffic problems and rail delays to look forward to.

.

However, life can still have it’s exotic touches, even when train travel is disrupted …. take yesterday for instance!

We have just had a surprise, concerning the sudden delays in the rail service to and from a place in West Yorkshire, called Shepley.

.

And no, this time it was not due to snowfalls, or even to the presence of leaves on the line, or any other of the varied excuses which are regularly trotted out to frustrated would-be travellers.

.

This time it was something totally different and very very exotic.

This time the service was disrupted by reports of lions in the area.

Passengers were said to have been kept on the train in Shepley station, to ensure their own safety.

.

It seems that there had been reports from the public that they had seen a lion in the area.

.

Police took the reports seriously and sent officers out to investigate, helped by a helicopter overhead.

Eventually, as nothing was seen by them, the trains were once again put back to normal service, although the police force continued to follow up on the reports.

.

I am sure that you will remember a similar search which took place after there were reported sightings about ‘a white tiger’ which was seen in fields around Southampton.

.

Whoaaah….there’s excitement for you then!

And take care while travelling on trunk roads.

Born To Paint.

Hi,

.

WOW, it is cold up here this morning.

All of the windows were iced up when I rose from my bed at 7am, and there was a very wintry scene outside, with all of the nearby house roofs gleaming with frost.

I expect that all of the crows are feeling very chilled and sorry for themselves.

.

Never mind, this morning they will receive the prawn crackers that were left from a weekend Chinese takeaway ( their great greasy favourite) and the  crusts that Big H cut off from my toast this morning.

When I first got up, I went to make myself some tasty toast and Marmite, along with a big cup of Lapsang, but I was disappointed to discover that there were only crusts of bread remaining….and the Marmite was totally finished.

.

Luckily Big H arises by about 8.30, because of his medication, so he quickly went to the Spar and bought the necessary items, before making me my desired breakfast.

Mmmmmmm.

.

Obviously, because it was so bitterly cold last night, it is not surprising that there is no cloud cover this morning, and the sky is a brilliant icy blue.

There is also total sunshine which makes everything look truly beautiful.

.

I have got some new canvases now, because my husband felt better last week and stretched and framed some ready for me to get some new work done.

That is my plan for the day, especially with this wonderful light, after so many dark weeks.

So, there is much pleasure ahead!

.

Talking about art, have you heard about one of our youngest established artists?

One who is nine years of age….and who is called Kieron Williamson.

.

He was found to be different from most other children when he was about 5….and first picked up a paintbrush.

.

This is a video about him which was recorded when he was 6, and had just taken up painting on his last summer holidays.
.
.

.

Here is some work, posted 2 years ago.
.

.
Here he is 8 years of age.
.

.

Now, at the ripe old age of 9, he is now getting ready for a new show at the PictureHouse Gallery in Norfolk.

It is due to take place very soon, and will probably be another quick sell-out just like the last showing was.

.

If you fancy queueing overnight, as has been done previously, then you can expect the range of prices to reach up to £16,000 for some works.

.

Howzat for a little fellow!!!

How The Mighty Have Fallen.

Hi,

.

This is a post which is interesting for everyone, never mind just the tree-huggers amongst us.

.

In the Parks of America there are some groves of the Giant Sequoia Trees, which are giant Redwoods.

.

These amazing trees measure huge circumferences around their trunk.

.

In fact, as a child, I can clearly remember looking in our old encyclopedias and seeing pictures of the ‘Wowona Tunnel Tree, a Sequoia which was so huge that an arch had been cut through the trunk in 1881 to allow the passage of horse drawn carts through it, while it still continued to grow in spite of the tree surgery that had been carried out upon it.

This famous tunnel was even used by motor cars later on, but it finally fell in 1969 due to tons of snow weighing down the upper branches.

.

On September 30th this year, something very rare happened which totally blocked the Trail Of Two Giants in the National Park.

There were two of the Giant Sequoia trees which were 300′ tall, with 17′ diameter trunks, and they had suddenly and unexpectedly fallen over at the same time.

They were also unusual in that they were actually joined together for about 30′ down at the bottom of their massive trunks.

.

You have to remember that these are mighty trees which are quite ancient, these particular ones being believed to be between 1,500 and 2,000 years of age.

Isn’t that incredible….to have lived for so very long….and to have experienced so much.

.

When the experts examined the roots etc. they found that the fallen trees were strong and healthy, but they felt that they understood the reasons for the trees suddenly toppling over and uprooting themselves.

It seemed that the effects of a wet winter, and the action of drainage channels on either side of the trees had prevented the soil from properly drying out and supporting the colossal weight.

The trees fell as a result of this.

.

Once the rangers had made sure that everything was secure, and that there was no danger to the public, people were allowed to enter the park on October 22nd and look see the trees for themselves.

.

.

I though that was very sad myself, although amazing to see such giants.

It’s Gonna Be A Lovely Day!

Hey Folks,

.

Are you all set for a lovely romantic weekend, after enduring a totally non-romantic slog of a week.

.

Well, the journey to work need not always be lacking in romance ….

…..especially if you were one of the tired commuters on the 19.57 London Overground Service to Watford Junction, in carriage no.2 on November 1st 2011, somewhere between London Euston and South Hampstead
.
.
.
As romance suddenly appeared, it quickly turned out to be a lovely day for Adam and Lucy..
.

.

Was that memorable or not.
Ahhhhhh!
.

Have a romantic one yourself,

Lemmings Will Love This Place!

Hey Folks,

.

This post is especially for any of you Lemmings who happen to be reading my post today….so, you don’t need to bother writing to me anymore, in order to complain that I do not try and include the concerns of such small creatures such as yourselves in my posts.

.

You may remember my recent post regarding the amazing collapse of a huge amount of the cliff-side, which took place on Cornwall….amazingly filmed as it happened, by walkers who were about to reach that very spot.

.

It does seem that coastal erosion is going apace now.

.

The latest episode has taken place in Wales, at a caravan park in Porthkerry.

.

The caravan site is one which is set on the cliff edge directly facing the amazing sea views.

The caravans lucky enough to get the best sea views are sited about 6′ from the edge of the cliff, with a 200′ drop down to the shore.

.

It was reported that last week some cracks were noticed in the ground at this edge of the site, and apparently expert advice was sought.

.

Unfortunately, in the early evening of Monday a loud sound was heard, which various witnesses described as sounding just like very loud fireworks suddenly going off.

Then it happened.

A section of ground parallel to the cliff edge, apparently almost 200′ long, suddenly fell away and crashed down to the shore.

.

One woman, who was in her caravan when the ground away moved under it, was in a state of shock as she was helped away to safety.

Luckily, at this time of year most of the holidaymakers have already left the site for the winter months, so most of the caravans directly affected were already empty and no-one was hurt.

Obviously, if the weather had been hot, as it was earlier in the year, there could well have been people sitting in their deckchairs, enjoying the view, a lot nearer to the edge.

.

There are now 14 caravans which have now been left on the very edge of the cliff….or actually hanging out over it.

.

Not the sort of excitement you are looking for, when you are expecting to enjoy a little seaside peace and quiet!

.

Caravans left hanging over the 200ft drop.
.

.

In future I think I shall be a little less keen on getting the best sea view possible when I visit the seaside!!!

.

Have a good day yourself, but hopefully not one with a cliff-hanger type of ending to it!

UFO Filmed During Sunday Night Football. 23rd Oct 2011.

Hey,

.

Here we have another possible UFO sighting to grace my Mysteries And Wonderments section.

.

This time the action took place during a American football match in Saint Louis, USA.

.

Apparently the video was taken by a fan who had gone to enjoy the match.

It seems that he was using the time before the match kicked off, to catch the New Orleans skyline, including the image of the much admired St Louis Cathedral.

.

The resulting film showed a strange light darting quickly across the sky, going behind the Cathedral at one point.

.

When this anomaly was freeze framed it showed an intriguing UFO which appeared to be a long cigar shaped form, with various lights showing on it and perhaps some form of appendage on the top.

.

.

It is creating a lot of interest, as you would expect, and everyone has an opinion about it.

What’s Yours!!!

.

Have a mysterious day yourself.

J,x.

PS.

For those of you who are wondering….the match was between the New Orleans Saints and the Indeannapolis Colts…and the Saints won 62-7….whatever that means!

More Of The Same Today. Boring!

HI,

.

And a fine morning to you.

.

Actually that is not happening here today, as it is not a welcoming sort of morning….in fact it is wet, wet, wet!

.

There’s a thought.

Do you remember that group called Wet, Wet, Wet, which were very very popular some years ago?

.

I recall that the singer was from Scotland and he had really nice long dark hair that he used to toss about regularly.

.

Wet, Wet, Wet….unfortunately there is no rampant hair tossing in this video.

.

.

Aha, here we are, Hair,Hair,Hair.
.

.

.

OOOOH, I am still very partial to men with long hair….age may wither us, but some tastes never change.

Of course, if I was single now I would probably be hard put to find myself a man with hair, never mind long dark hair!

.

The most beautiful hair I saw belonged to Nuno Bettancourt when he was with the group called Extreme….like the proverbial crow’s wing it was.

.

.
Oooooh.
I always think that the ‘shampoo ad people’ lost a good move there when they did not use him for shampoo ads….you know the sort of thing….’it can even make men look outstandingly beautiful’.

It would surely have worked on many levels too, because women would have wanted to watch the ad because of him being in it.

I sometimes think that I could have done well in advertising!

.

So, I digress as usual, but what can I say about this rainy Tuesday….except to say that it sucks royally.

Big H and I went for our intended country walk yesterday, but it was so muddy and slippy that we ended up changing our plans and stayed on the pavements, walking around the houses instead.

Whoaaah, the stuff of a rambler’s dreams, not.

.

No doubt we will be more or less housebound today, except for a similar outing later on, if things manage to clear up a little bit.

.

It is a pleasant thought that some of you people out there are enjoying bright sun at this very moment….and perhaps getting ready for surfing or even a barbecue later on….accompanied by some refreshingly cold beers.

Lucky you!

I would not mind a day at a sunny beach myself, followed by a bonfire and some tasty food, and music, and dancing.

Now, that sounds so enticing, that I have added the purchase of a lottery ticket to my daily list of stuff to do.

Probably the usual total waste of money, but a cheering thought nonetheless.

.

So, here’s wishing you a dry day, at the very least.

J,

Sharing The Love.

Hi Folks,

So we are back to Monday….why do there always seem to be more Mondays than there are Saturdays!!!!!

.

It sucks!!!!

.

Therefore, I shall attempt to cheer up your morning with a smile, and put you in a good mood for the day.

I like animal stuff, as that always seems to work for me.

And for today we shall take a detour into the life of Sea Otters.

Frozen Planet: Unmissable Stuff.

Hi,

.

Have you been perusing your TV guide diligently.

Have you been lucky enough to have watched the beginning of the new BBC documentary series, narrated by our old favourite, Sir David Attenborough.

That man is concentrated television, even at 85.

He should be cloned!

.

This new series is about finding what effects the climate change has been causing in the wild regions of the Arctic and the Antarctic.

.

This is a seven part series called the Frozen Planet, and the next part can be caught on Wednesday evening at 9pm on BBC I.

.

If you would like to catch-up so far….and you really should….here is the link which will allow you to do so.

Frozen Planet…..Part One….To The Ends Of The Earth

.

So, that is my Wednesdays evenings sorted for a while anyway!

So you be there or be square.

.

See Ya,

J,x.
