Poem: Small Pleasures To Be Had.

Small Pleasures To Be Had.

The high point of the day

Is toast and Marmite

Cut into little fingers,

And then there’s the postman,

Bringing the promise of a letter,

Or something unexpected.

Banksy’s Work Is Destroyed. Bloody People With White Paint!

Hi,

.

It seems that Banksy, the Bristol born mysterious and iconic graffiti artist is not perhaps as well known in some parts of our society as we might have supposed that he was.

.

Banksy at Bristol City Museum. 2009.
.

.

.

In his hometown there are many familiar and well loved graffiti images stencilled about the place….like the ‘Gorilla In A Pink Mask’  images.

.

On Fishponds Road there is a well known building which used too be the ‘North Bristol Social Club’.

.

This has now become a Muslim Cultural Centre, and Saeed Ahmed decided that he would tidy it up a bit by removing the unsightly graffiti on the walls by the vigorous application of bright white paint….all over the very popular artwork.

.

Local people who then passed by were saddened to discover that the well-loved and cheering gorilla image was gone.

.

The unknowing perpetrator of the art crime has now asked the Director of the International Fine Art Conservation Studios to help him reveal the valuable artwork once more.

Mr. Pelter is going to give it his best try.

.

Let us hope that all of the other admired works by Banksy, such as Love Cheat and Police Sniper And Boy are kept safe from the ‘people who tidy up’.

.

I suppose that it could have been worse though…. he could have used magnolia paint!!!

.

Banksey leaves wonderful surprises for the public and definitely brightens their days.

Poem: Friend.

Friend.

.

.

Each time I take a walk

Along by the river

It is a pleasure.

Though not so much the water,

The hanging trees,

Or pillowed grass,

As much as it is

The large and purry cat

Who lies in the dust of pink flowers,

Waiting to greet me.

Ariel Needs Your Help.

Hi,

.

Something a bit sad for you today.

.

In Brazil there is a beautiful lion, owned by Raquel Borges.

He is called Ariel and he is a massive 140 kg in weight.

He is also paralysed now and cannot use his legs at all.

.

Unfortunately he became ill last year, with a bad degenerative auto-immune condition, where his white blood cells are destroying his healthy cells.

This was thought to be caused by a virus.

.

He first began limping last year and underwent surgery for a herniated disc.

Afterwards his front legs were found to be paralysed.

.

He is now being looked after by his vet, Livia Teixeira, who has taken him into her home in order to give him the best care possible.

.

.

It is costing about £7,000 pcm for his care and treatment.

.

People all over the world are donating money to help, via his site and his facebook page.

Because of this various experts are testing him to try and find out exactly what can be done to bring about his recovery.

.

Now there is a lot of publicity about Ariel and his condition, he will hopefully recover because so many people really care about him.

.

Ariel’s Website…..for English speakers.

This is the link to the….facebook page…. where people who can read Spanish have been making donations to help with the treatment costs.

.

He looks lovely….he reminds me of the ‘most beautiful thing’ post….still one of my favourite things!

.

Fingers crossed for Ariel!

Later News. 28th July.

Sadly Ariel died at the end of July despite everyone doing all that they could for him.

Kissy, Kissy.

Hey,

.

New ideas are good in any situation….and of course in artistic endeavours.
It does not matter what you think of it, because just the act of watching and forming the opinion that you have of it is stimulating.

.

I was reading about a woman called Natalie Irish, an artist from Houston, Texas. .
She was blotting her lips one day, and got an idea while looking at the resulting lipstick imprint on the tissue.

.

Her idea was born and tried out.
This is the artworks that she did as a result.

.

Lipstick kisses making a painting.
.
.

What do you think of it!
Do you like it or are all of your kisses still going to be bestowed on a lucky person!

Shedding A Little Light In A Naughty World.

Hi,

.

Today I thought That I would be a bit of a bright spark and talk about a very special and well-loved thing.

.

Something which has a fan club of thousands and is well admired world-wide.

.

Are you sitting comfortably?

Then I’ll begin….

.

On June 18th 2011, a hand blown light bulb, with a carbon filament of four watts, began lighting up the 110th year of it’s long working life.

.

It was invented by a gentleman named Adolphe Chailet, who was one of the less successful contemporaries of Thomas Edison, and produced by the Shelby Electric Company.

.

The amazing bulb hangs in the Livermore Fire Station, California, in the USA.

It has been moved many times during it’s working life, but has never failed to give unfailingly good service to the firemen.

.

The Guinness Book Of Records have declared it to be the oldest known working light bulb in the world.

No small feat!

.

It is very famous and well loved, even having it’s own website.

If you want to be really anoraky….you can sit and watch it in real time….with an update every 10 seconds.

I hope that you liked the post, as it always does you good to enjoy a little light entertainment!

To Pee Or Not To Pee.

Hi,

.

As I am sure that we would all agree, weekends are excellent opportunities for a bit of fun…..food, drink, friends, and a bit of a laugh.

However, it is possible to go to far….or perhaps not far enough, in order to reach a proper toilet!

.

It is against the law to pee in the streets in the UK.

.

But what do you do when you regularly complain that every weekend drunken revellers use the street outside of your home as a toilet, and it keeps on happening.

.

One man in Hoxton, who lives near the popular Old Street, where late night drinking licences have been granted, decided to try and do something about it himself.

.

He has begun filming the offending people and warning them that they are going to go onto YouTube immediately.

Needless to say, he has had a lot of support!

.

.
No wonder it is called ‘getting pissed!.
.

It is also terrifying how some people seem to develop a death wish when they get so drunk that they cannot function, just like the woman who was so drunk that she fell onto the railway tracks in front of a train.

Joe McElderry Wins Pop Star To Opera Star.

Hello folks,

.

I don’t know if you have been following the latest contest in the Popstar To Operastar series.

.

I enjoyed the last one I watched because it had my old time favourite Darius in it….and he won it too.
.
My favourite PSTOS song from Darius….just because I can!
.

.

This particular PSTOS 2011 contest had the one time X Factor winner Joe McElderry taking part in it.

.

After he won the X Factor, things did not go too well for him and it all ended with him being dropped from his contract with Syco earlier this year.

Syco being the record company run by Simon Cowell, who was very much in favour of Joe during that X Factor contest.

.

However Joe, who is still only about 20, grasped the new chance to try his hand at opera….and this is not something that is really the rage on Tyneside.

And  tonight he won.

.

.
The judges were very very enthusiastic and told him that he should go on and in two or three years he will be a superb new opera talent.
He loves the whole idea of that.
.
What a canny Geordie lad.
Who’d a thought it!
.
What do you think of his voice….and his future promise as an opera singer!

To Go Or Not To Go, That Is The Question!

Hey,

,
So it is Sunday, and what a day it is.

.

After a week of very heavy rainstorms, we were greeted this morning by sunshine and blue skies once again….so the world is our lobster once more.

.

I don’t know what is in store for us for the rest of this promising day, apart from a possible descent into the by-now familiar black skies and gushing water filled roadsides, but hopefully it will be something suitably summery. .

.

Perhaps that will merely translate into us, guzzling long cool glasses of minty Pimm’s, while staring through rain-streaked windows at frantically dashing wet people.

.

It does not matter really, because we all enjoy our Sundays for many many different reasons.

.

Some people will be spending their day, sunny or not, perusing various possible holiday destinations around the globe.

Exotic seems to be the name of the game now, instead of a couple of weeks in Margate with a bucket and spade.

.

Perhaps it would be best to go for the really different type of place, which is a really really long way away.

Somewhere like Machu Picchu for instance!

.

Macchu Picchu is a rare place, officially re-discovered on July 15th 1911, by American explorer Hiram Bingham.

.

These are some of his pictures, published in the National Geographic Magazine in April 1913.
Top-tip….switch off the sound first!
.

.

It is a breathtaking creation from the 15th century, formed from stones which are covered with carvings.

.

It was awarded UNESCO status as a World Heritage Site ….. an official Wonder Of The World …. in 2007.
.
Seven Wonders of the World.
.

.

.

There are now celebrations underway to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Hiram Bingham’s discovery.

A number of special guests, approximately about 700, were invited to attend a light show at the attraction, which is situated high in the Andean Mountains, at about 2,350′ above sea level.

.

There was an awesome light show, with accompanying classical music by Dvorak, played by an orchestra.
.

.

There are also many other celebrations, such as traditional dancing etc., which are also taking place in various venues.

.

Wow, so pretty.

I wish I had been able to see it in person!

Shall you go for a trip there then!
