Joe McElderry Wins Pop Star To Opera Star.

Hello folks,

.

I don’t know if you have been following the latest contest in the Popstar To Operastar series.

.

I enjoyed the last one I watched because it had my old time favourite Darius in it….and he won it too.
.
My favourite PSTOS song from Darius….just because I can!
.

.

This particular PSTOS 2011 contest had the one time X Factor winner Joe McElderry taking part in it.

.

After he won the X Factor, things did not go too well for him and it all ended with him being dropped from his contract with Syco earlier this year.

Syco being the record company run by Simon Cowell, who was very much in favour of Joe during that X Factor contest.

.

However Joe, who is still only about 20, grasped the new chance to try his hand at opera….and this is not something that is really the rage on Tyneside.

And  tonight he won.

.

.
The judges were very very enthusiastic and told him that he should go on and in two or three years he will be a superb new opera talent.
He loves the whole idea of that.
.
What a canny Geordie lad.
Who’d a thought it!
.
What do you think of his voice….and his future promise as an opera singer!

To Go Or Not To Go, That Is The Question!

Hey,

,
So it is Sunday, and what a day it is.

.

After a week of very heavy rainstorms, we were greeted this morning by sunshine and blue skies once again….so the world is our lobster once more.

.

I don’t know what is in store for us for the rest of this promising day, apart from a possible descent into the by-now familiar black skies and gushing water filled roadsides, but hopefully it will be something suitably summery. .

.

Perhaps that will merely translate into us, guzzling long cool glasses of minty Pimm’s, while staring through rain-streaked windows at frantically dashing wet people.

.

It does not matter really, because we all enjoy our Sundays for many many different reasons.

.

Some people will be spending their day, sunny or not, perusing various possible holiday destinations around the globe.

Exotic seems to be the name of the game now, instead of a couple of weeks in Margate with a bucket and spade.

.

Perhaps it would be best to go for the really different type of place, which is a really really long way away.

Somewhere like Machu Picchu for instance!

.

Macchu Picchu is a rare place, officially re-discovered on July 15th 1911, by American explorer Hiram Bingham.

.

These are some of his pictures, published in the National Geographic Magazine in April 1913.
Top-tip….switch off the sound first!
.

.

It is a breathtaking creation from the 15th century, formed from stones which are covered with carvings.

.

It was awarded UNESCO status as a World Heritage Site ….. an official Wonder Of The World …. in 2007.
.
Seven Wonders of the World.
.

.

.

There are now celebrations underway to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Hiram Bingham’s discovery.

A number of special guests, approximately about 700, were invited to attend a light show at the attraction, which is situated high in the Andean Mountains, at about 2,350′ above sea level.

.

There was an awesome light show, with accompanying classical music by Dvorak, played by an orchestra.
.

.

There are also many other celebrations, such as traditional dancing etc., which are also taking place in various venues.

.

Wow, so pretty.

I wish I had been able to see it in person!

Miru Kim. Naked Artist.

Hey,

.

This post is about a girl who began her adult life wanting to be a doctor.

She became a medical student with such a career in mind for herself, but she actually ended up developing a career as an unusual artist by taking pictures of herself in unusual places….nude.

.

It happened when she went to New York. and fell in love with the whole vibe and energy of the place.

.

As she explored the city, she became very interested in hidden locations she found there, such as abandoned warehouses, subways and locations scheduled for re-development.

.

As her interest developed she began recording these places in photographs, making a point of including the unnoticed animals who dwelled in these locations….those ones such as rats.

.

It was only one more step to the idea of putting herself in the frame, so to speak, as the token urban animal!

.

She decided that she would be totally nude in order to be anonymous, with no cultural distractions or obvious points of reference, she would be cast adrift inside the many secret layers of city life.

.

She has been very successful in her endeavours.

Rats R Us.

Good Morning,

.

At least it is a good morning just about anywhere but in Southampton, because the Government and the unions are at loggerheads there.

.

As I wrote recently, there has been a binman’s strike underway in Southampton for several weeks, which has left uncollected rubbish to rot all over the streets of the city.

.

The strike had been due to end in a few days but, unfortunately for Southampton, it is reported now that the unions have decided to extend the strike instead.

.

The place seems to be drowning under the collossal weight of rotting piles of garbage which has been estimated to be around 2,000 tons.

The people are sickened by the stench, frightened that children will be bitten by rodents, and many of the bags have been torn open by various  animals.

.

There are worries about flies, the rat infestation and the dangers of disease, and the warmer weather can only add to the nightmare that has developed.

.

The strikers may now be joined by other council workers such as teachers.

Polygon Street, Southampton

The Cube Project.

Hey, Hey,

.

I hope that all is well with yourself today….and with your home and hearth.

.

My thoughts have been turning to houses again lately, and to the changes required for a retirement move.

.

I have also often wondered how much ‘stuff’ we actually need instead of the mountains of ‘neccessary’ posessions that we are all so industriously building up.

.

Everything in life these days is an encouragement to buy, buy, buy.

I mean how many clothes do we really need, and how many posessions.

Most people I know have huge wardrobes of stuff, while only seeming to actually wear the same core things most of the time.

.

Every new technological toy is siezed upon the moment that it arrives, even though there is nothing wrong with the older, discarded, and still working items.

.

Fashion is all, and this applies in every level of our lives.
I am forever seeing people move into new homes, which have been recently and expensively re-modelled, and then immediately throwing out the new luxury kitchens and bathrooms etc. into big skips.

.

There are whole industries making shedloads of money on the backs of our need to insure and protect all of our goods, and to transport them about the place.

The world is plundered and abused to fit our fancies, and not our actual needs.

.

Everyone wants to outdo everyone else, while some people are subsisting on the streets.

Renwal of the land and the seas and the air seems to count for nothing against our wanting more, and wanting it now!

.

Don’t get me wrong, I have not lived any differently from everyone else here in the UK, but I like to at least consider what can be done.

.

There is a very interesting amount of thinking going on now with regard to deliberately living in a more carbon neutral and sustainable way…..and adapting….and Biotecture.

.

The Cube Project is the result of such thinking.

.

It is a 10’x10’x10′ cube house, which is triple glazed, and built of sustainable sweet chestnut wood cladding with LED lighting and television.

.

The kitchen has an induction hob, a steel sink, and a fridge.

There is an air source heat pump too.

.

There are also 8 solar panels on the roof and a blank wall outside for 8 more on the south wall of the cube.

The cube is carbon neutral and the solar panels provide £1,000 income over the year.

.

Of course, the cube is small and would suit one very tidy person, who had very few posessions….or two such ‘very intimately connected’ people!

.

However, the idea is a good beginning to get people to at least think about the green subject.

War Horse.

Hi,

.

Did you see the play War Horse or not.

To those of you lucky people who live near enough to get to the West End in London, or who have the necessary time, energy and money to travel there…a really unbelievable treat is in store for you if you have not seen it yet.

.

I was totally fascinated by a clip that I caught on television some time ago, which showed the incredibly real life sized puppets that were made for the stage performance of War Horse.

.

The story was written by Michael Morpurgo, and the horses in it are awesome.

I wish that I had seen it as a child, these is magic in the puppets and the absolute realism of it.

Unfortunately for me it was not staged until 2007.

.

I have read that there is also a special performance of the play taking place upon Remembrance Day, at the National Theatre.

It is in support of ‘Help The Heroes’, so you get to do two amazing things at the same time!

.

You can book on-line. if you fancy it or you are stuck for a good present.

The Fun-Loving People Will Have Their Way.

Hi,

.

When you look at top models, both male and female, they do not really have much in common with the everyday people who drool over the fashion magazines and then dash to buy the clothes that were advertised.

.

You rarely see anyone average looking being used to advertise the clothing sold at high street shops such as Next.

.

However, that may change, thanks to the ‘Next’ retailer’s search for a new model for their brand.

They decided to ask would-be models to send in their pictures for a new modelling competition.

Then the general public were invited to help choose the models who would go on to other stages in the competition, by registering their votes in a first-stage, on-line poll, of all of the entrants.

.

They had a choice from the 5,000 entries which were made before the end of June closing date.

.

The 250 would-be models who have the highest votes will then go into the next stage where they will be judged by professionals .

From this phase there will be 50 contestants left, who will then attend a model boot camp before two of them are chosen in the finals, to have the chance to model for Next.

.

One young man in particular caught the fancy of the people, who then decided that they should try to orchestrate a campaign in order to make sure that he got the highest numbers of votes, even though he is an unusual choice for modelling, being both somewhat overweight and ginger haired.

.

He is 24 years of age and he is a graduate in Computer Sciences.

He was very pleased to end up with a massive number of votes.

It is reported that he gained 66,000 votes, which was well ahead of the next most popular contestant who apparently had a very much less impressive ‘fewer than 100’ votes.

.

It remains to be seen whether he can now make it further in the contest, because there is no future chance for the public to vote for him again.

.

Whoever wins will receive various things such as £2,000, some professional photography and a chance to be chosen to join a top modelling agency.

.

Can he do it….is it possible!!!

What do you think!!!
