So How Does A Firework Feel On The 4th July!

Hello,

.

I know that this is a puzzle that lots of you, especially you Americans, want to know the answer to.

.

Indeed, it may actually be one of the great questions of our time!

.

It is not something that you would ever expect to find the answer to, but if you really want to know, then Jeremiah Warren can help you.

.

Jeremiah is a nineteen year old young man from Texas who had the idea to purchase a 2.6″ camcorder and then attach it to a firework ‘rocket’ and light the touchpaper.

.

The result of the experiment is a two minute clip of film which is now uploaded onto YouTube.

It is in high definition and records even after the aerial display is over and the rocket comes back to earth again.

.

.
Not bad for £120 dollars!
.
There is actually one more American ‘4th July related thing’ which happened at a firing range in the Bronx.
.

Reportedly, the NYPD had confiscated about 5,000 lbs of illegal fireworks during a crackdown which they had been carrying out.

The items were then destroyed by the Bomb Squad in a controlled detonation at 11.05 am on July 1st.
.

.

What a shame they did not do it at night….perhaps on the 4th July….what a waste!

.

All Sunday Not Touched As Yet.

Greetings to you all,

.

Oh, what a beautiful  morning, Oh what a…. etc.etc.

.

It is truly beautiful here in the North today.

.

The sky is a blazing blue framing an incandescently bright sun….and the church bells are going bonkers.

Our whole world is chiming today.

.

Although it was not a very bright afternoon yesterday, Big H and I still visited the garden and did some much needed tidying-up.

Big H cut the lawn in increments, composed of doing a few square circuits of lawn and then spending a few restful minutes reading!

It takes that bit longer, but it does not kill him!

.

I, meanwhile, enjoyed myself immensely by setting a garden fire and then burning all of the manky spare wood which Big H has insisted on saving for many years in case he suddenly needed it for something or other.

This act of wifely sacrilege was augmented with all of the nasty prickly holly tree cuttings and other assorted dry branches and cuttings and old canes.

It was an incredibly hot and absolutely roaring fire, which left me with a very red face….not at all an unusual state for me to be in!

.

I am not one for lying baking in the sun for hours so I came home as soon as I was done and had a nice cool bath to wash of the resulting stink of bonfire.

It was old-style fun, in the same class as kicking piles of autumn leaves around….and blowing bubbles.

.

As today is promising to be wonderful, I am sure that we will do something pleasurable today too, once Big H has been out for the papers and we have had our croissants and green tea.

.

Perhaps the seaside….and the top down….AND ICE CREAM.

.

What will you decide to do, now that you have a whole Sunday untouched as yet.

Whatever you choose, do have a good one!

J,x

Big

Ed Milliband Malfunction? These Strikes Are Wrong!

Hi,

Is it just me….or is Mr Milliband having a malfunction of one of his more mechanical parts.

Or is he perhaps trying to say that….These Strikes Are Wrong.

So Here We Go.

What do you think!

Come on now, stop behaving in a reckless and provocative manner, put aside the rhetoric, get around the negotiating table you parents and public…..and give us your opinion!

Youth Is Wasted On The Young ‘Cos They Don’t Yet Know The Horrible Alternative To It!

Hi Folks,

.

Good morning to you.

.

This unusual weather is continuing apace.

.

Yesterday it rained all morning, but at lunchtime everything cleared up and we decided it was an unmissable chance to get the top down and go out to get some very necessary shopping, if we wanted to continue to eat something other than baked beans on toast.

.

It began well, and there I sat wearing a vest, baggy linen trousers and flip-flops, enjoying the heat and the breeze playing through my hair.

That said hair now being extremely short all of a sudden, because it had been getting on my nerves lately.

.

It is bad enough being an old bag, never mind being an old ‘bag lady’.

Unfortunately one of the many undesirable side effects of getting significantly older is that the condition of the hair can change drastically.

Although I have always had long hair I have had to accept that there is a reason why most older women have shorter hair….it is because it changes into something more akin to pubic hair.

.

No-one in their right mind wants to have hair that looks great immediately after being washed and blow dried, then a few hours later, when you are not looking, spitefully turns into stiffer and bushier and drier stuff altogether.

.

All you have left then is to begin clipping it up into some kind of topiary arrangement, as a large percentage of these unfortunate ladies do, and it is incredibly dated as far as I am concerned.

.

So, after about two seconds of exasperation as I looked in the mirror, I cut it off.

.

I then searched out a very bemused Big H and told him to tidy up the back as best he could manage.

It looks OK, and I would rather look a bit punky than like a sad hedge….or would that be a sad hedgehog!

.

Anyway, to be quite honest, it is actually quite exciting to suddenly do something like that….but I have drawn the line at dyeing it red….that would be a step too far, and I don’t mind so much about my grey-stripey skunk look….. but I just hope that I don’t pong of wee yet.

.

But perhaps I still have a few years before that happens, and the dreaded time finally comes when I need to begin laying on the lavender water with a heavy hand!

.

Anyway, after that tonsorial detour, lets get back to that car sunny journey yesterday.

I have to tell you that the sunshiny window of opportunity was just a dastardly trick.

.

The minute that we had parked and I was a good distance away from the car, doing a bit of innocent shopping….IT ALL CHANGED.

.

It was just like magic.

The skies went black and then they suddenly opened to torrential rain again.

.

Now, that neatly leads us into extreme sport?

.

Me, trying to run at warp speed across busy roads, while my glasses are useless because I don’t have windscreen wipers fitted to them and I cannot see the proverbial bat without them on.

Doubly annoying to reach the safe and dry car, with a safe and dry Big H relaxing inside it, and then be told to try not to get the car too wet!!!!

.

Bah!….Humbug!

How sad to see it –

Like a white starfish

Wake Up Now.

Hi,

.

Today is a greeny issue.

It is with regard to the scary changes which are taking place in the oceans….and speeding up all the time.

.

Project Clamer is a worldwide study, where reports from many different are gathered together, as they collaborate in a huge effort to plot the effects of climate change upon the oceans.

.

One very interesting result is that there is a great shift in the habitats of many marine creatures, from whales down to plankton.

.

There are now some unusual species, formerly found in warmer waters, which are migrating into the North Atlantic.

.

There are huge numbers of the very dangerous Portuguese Man O’War jellyfish species found there now.
.

.

The usually sub-tropical species, Pelagia Noctiluca, is also to be found there now, a creature which eats large numbers of young fish, which is dangerous for the already badly depleted fish stocks.
.
This is from YouTube, and shows someone who says they were stung eight times by a mauve stinger (Pelagia Noctiluca) while swimming off the coast of Spain.
.

.
.

Because of the shrinking ice pack, new passageways are now being opened up in previously frozen areas.

.

The change in temperatures is apparently causing changes which could be catastrophic, as nothing exists in a vacuum.

Various creatures exist in an established food chain and the effects of a change in one link can affect all of the rest of the chain.

For instance, when bears come out of hibernation they often feed upon salmon which present themselves at the necessary time…. but if there are no salmon, then the bears will probably starve to death along with their new cubs.

.

Plankton, which is being damaged, may not be very glamorous but without it there would be a catastrophe.
.

.

It is all changing so quickly in a selfish world.

.

.

I’ll Bet That Makes Your Eyes Water!

Hi Folks,

.

Just a quick one for you.

.

Now this one is definitely a bit cool.

It all looks so graceful and flowing to the observer’s eye.

.

The action takes place in the Czech Republic.

The wind flight simulator is in the Skydive Arena in Prague, and the simulated wind blows at approx 180mph.

.

I have never seen a ‘synchronized wind machine skydive’ before, and the area seems so small, as the circular chamber is only 14 metres high, with a slightly more than 14m diameter.

.

Anyway, I enjoyed seeing it done so well!

Drunken Boy Falls 20′ Off Escalator, And Survives.

Hi,

.

I seem to have done quite a few posts about drunken people….and you seem to like them….so here is yet another piece of CCTV film.

.

This clip shows a very lucky young man indeed.

.

It is reported that an 18 year old called Shane O’Malley is the young man in the film, who had been drinking with friends.

.

At Alewife Station in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on Sunday evening,  he began to go up on a 20′ escalator by way of trying to ride on the handrail.

He falls off and crashes 20′ down onto the concrete floor below. .

.

Luckily for him he only fractured an elbow….and can not remember much about it at all!
