More Of The Same.

And so it goes on …. and on.

We have a most wonderful day again today.

It is real designer stuff, with all of the things you would request if you were ordering one from a ‘blue skies’ provider.

Such enjoyable sunshine and heat.

I know that a lot of people are of the opinion that we are getting this strange weather because of the tragedy of Global Warming, and others feel that the end-of-the-world is very nigh, but that does not change the visible and enjoyable aspects of a day such as today.

It is happening and it is here to enjoy …. so, sufficient to the day it is.

I mean, if we spent the day lamenting the fact that it is happening, it would make no difference at all, except we would willfully ignore such beauty on one of the all-too-few days of our life.

It is like old ivory.

I have spoken to people who are of the opinion that all such historical ivory should be promptly destroyed because of how it was obtained, but surely that would be even more destructive to destroy it all, in that there would be nothing left to show of the wonder of those particular animals and the beauty of many of the resulting artefacts.

But it is hard to say, because their argument against that is that it makes them unbearably sad to see such things and remember what was done to so many animals.

There are so many points of view on so many disparate things.

Anyway, I have told you how I feel, and now Big H and I intend to have lunch soon and then enjoy a leisurely walk in the countryside.

It is also very beautiful at the moment, because all of the trees are slowly unfurling their fresh green leaves and everything is just bursting with new life.

I hope you also have the dream day of your own choice.

Harrod’s Could Not Do It Better.

OMG …. what a STELLAR day.

The grass is neon green, the sky is luminously blue, and everything is even better than perfect.

Do you know, if you ordered a perfect day from Harrods, they could not do it better,

And it is totally free!

This morning, after breakfast, Big H and I went around to the garden to continue the spring tidy-up, and we have rarely had a better idea.

We have had a wonderful morning which ended up with both of us lying on the newly mown grass reading our Kindles while toasting ourselves in the sunshine.

Big H then suggested that we come back home so that he could make us some lunch.

It turned out that he had a real urge to eat some poached eggs on buttered toast.

I mean, I am not going to disagree am I, especially as he is preparing it for us.

I thought that I would just have time to write you a post before the food is ready and say that I hope that you are also having a similarly fine day …. possibly minus the eggs of course!

Later Big H is going back to continue with his pursuit of a fine suntan, but I may just stay here and laze about doing nothing.

It will all depend upon how full I feel after the meal, ‘cos I also intend to have my usual ‘2 pint mugs of Lapsang’ overload.

Hey, I know that my tea consumption is excessive but there are worse addictions and I do not have any sugar or milk in it either.

Yesterday, I did read that this amazing weather is not going to last much longer and that we can expect snow at Eastertide …. but hey, nothing’s perfect for ever!

All Teeth And Eyes!

Hello, Hello,

My goodness, what an outstandingly beautiful day today …. there is heat, blue skies and wonderful sunshine, even in the early part of the morning.

When you consider that I have also had the most outstanding weekend, then all is pretty much perfect!

Big H and I have been enjoying a visit from the family and it was great fun …. we even had my brother here for a few hours too …. and he took us all out for a meal to top it off.

The only downside is that the house always seems to be very quiet for a short time afterwards, until everything goes back to normal once again.

This morning I have an appointment at the dentist’s, and I am hoping that this will be the last one.

It is funny really, but even when I know that there is no chance of any drilling or injections etc when I get there, I still don’t feel exactly happy to be there and the moment of leaving is always a very welcome one.

It must be the old memories of the less-than-caring dental treatments of my childhood coming to the surface even now.

I should also have been going to the opticians this afternoon, for the resolution of my recent prescription problem, but they rang to cancel it yesterday due to the optician being off work all of a sudden.

Annoyingly, there was no open appointment left for another 10 days, and it will have to be on a Saturday morning too.

If I had not accepted that one I would have had to wait yet another two wait almost a month to see someone, never mind it being one of their best opticians, which was what I was told it would need to be because of the cost of them correcting their mistakes.

As it takes a few weeks to have my very thin lenses made to such a high prescription, I shall end up having had to wear five-year old prescription spectacles for a few months …. not great!

Never mind, with eyes as short-sighted as mine I don’t think I would have lasted very long in medieval times because I would never be able to see well enough to hide or run away in order to avoid bad things.

So I am grateful really to modern optometry, even with these occasional glitches.

I shall have to go now or I shall miss my appointment …. but, as it is so very sunny that we can drive there with the top down.

And keep your own sunny-side up too!

Speccy Four Eyes Has A Problem.

It’s Wednesday already.

We had a busy day yesterday …. at the opticians.

Recently, I had an eye test in our local city …. and then I asked how much it would cost to just have my own diamante-type frames re-glazed, instead of buying new ones.

There does not seem to be any point in having the cost of buying new specs when it took me ages to find such pretty, blingy ones, in the first place.

The assistant then took me through the various thin lenses which were available to me, and obviously, as I need such a heavy prescription I definitely need as much help as I can get.

I said I would like the very thin Essilor brand that I already had.

Imagine my horror to be informed that the cost would be £500+ pounds …. just for re-glazing.

I said the cost was too high, even though she then offered to take off a further £20 or so if they needed to price match another quote, but I would discuss it at length with Big H that night.

Big H then decided to look on-line.

It was a considerable amount cheaper there, but he carefully read all of their reviews before deciding to go down that particular and possibly dodgy road.

But he eventually went for it, even though I have a complicated prescription and I need varifocals, because I was going to send them my old glazed specs so that they could re-glaze them.

This would allow them to see where my pupils are.

The wait was a bit worrying I must confess.

Well, it took a while but I finally received my specs back last Friday, and by Sunday I had to accept that I could not see properly with them at all because the computer screen was blurry and I could not comfortably read my new Kindle anymore.

Oh Bloody Shit!!!!!!!

Fuck! Fuck! Fuckkity Fuck!!!!!!!

Eventually, I dug out all of my previous 10 years of eye test results, and was surprised to see that the last prescription was extremely different from all of the previous ones.

Could the local High Street opticians have made a mistake instead of the on-line people?

On Monday I rang the local opticians to ask them to give me another eye test because I could not see very well with my new specs.

As soon as they found out I had had them made up somewhere else they told me to go and see the other opticians and complain to them because it was probably their mistake in making up the lenses.

I then had to say that I could not go to see them because they had been made-up online.

After quite an argument I finally managed to get an appointment to have a word with their dispensing optician who would check that the new lenses matched their new prescription …. obviously as a favour to me …. but no possibility of another eye test till after that was done.

The result was that the amazed lady had to finally admit that the varifocal lenses matched the prescription perfectly, and the iris positions were perfect too, although she said that she would not have believed that it could have been possible to do something so complicated on-line.

And then, she could not believe that it had only cost £280 pounds to buy them …. I mean there is over £200 difference!

She was horrified!

When she said that perhaps my eyes actually had changed as drastically as the new prescription was showing.

Big H countered that by saying that if that was so then I would not be able to wear the 5 years old glasses that I was wearing that day …. or be able to see properly with them …. far more comfortably than with the new ones.

Well, long story short, I now have an appointment with their best optician in a week or so, and I get my new eye test then.

And, if the original prescription is wrong, I will get my glasses re-glazed for free.

Now it just remains to be seen what happens next.

I will let you know all of the details of course …. and the name of the on-line optician too!

Have a very “clearly seen” day yourself.
