Survival Of The Fittest?

Hi,

.

How come I am so bloody short-sighted….like many other unfortunate people.

.

And there all all of those others who are long-sighted and those who are everywhere in between.

But what we have in common is the sad fact that, without our specs, many of us are close to being dangerously helpless.

.

Look at me for instance.

I can only see clearly for an inch or so before everything is blurred and unclear.

.

I mean, when I was younger, I would look up the street whilst wearing my pink fly-away Edna Everidge style national health specs and see a boy I liked coming towards me….then whip off my horrible glasses and stuff them in my pocket.

After that I would watch the indistinct shadow coming towards me and finally see the object of my desire only seconds before he passed me by.

.

Later on I would go to the youth club and spend the whole night unable to see anything with any clarity.

Utterly pointless!

.

This continued until my parents finally bought me some contact lenses when I was about sixteen.

I did not even know about the lenses being developed, but my parents obviously could not bear to continue having a daughter whose eyes looked like tiny currents when viewed through such strong ultra-thick prescriptive lenses…..with lots of rings reflected in them too.

Basically, wearing my prescription in those days, was like peering through two milk bottle bottoms.

.

No longer having to wear them was just like the beginning of a new life….and boys!

.

What I was thinking recently, was that really there should not actually be any people with really bad eyesight at all.

After all, surely the survival of the fittest rule should have caused all of us with that genetic weakness to be wiped out totally, as being unable to see properly is a bad survival bet.

.

And there are sometimes whole families who have bad eyes.

How could they have looked after themselves if none of them could be on the lookout for dangers.

.

Just imagine.

In early times, someone like me goes out for the water and walks along to the riverside.

There could be a huge 8ft bear, with the maddest eyes and the most huge teeth, standing in the bushes at the side of the path and I would walk straight in his direction.

Home delivery of junk food for bears!

.

Then, after my sudden disappearance, the other members of the family would have to take their turns to fetch the water.

One by one they would walk along the path and straight up to where the well-fed bear is waiting daily.

.

Eventually the bear would be waiting and no one would ever come again, so he would have to find another short-sighted take-away, another one which would do home deliveries like we did.

.

And yet there were still people with dreadful eyesight throughout the ages.

I mean, in medieval times I would probably have been made to be a lace-maker….until I went blind from it.

.

It is a funny thing to suddenly think about….one of many as far as I am concerned.

What do you think!

.

Have a good day, and remember, on a clear day you can see forever!

Even me, if I wear my specs.

.

PS. I have just had a thought….perhaps everyone who has bed eyes tastes horrible ….so nothing ever wanted to eat on of  them a second time!

.

Read This Or You Will Be Sorry.

Good Morning,

.

Well, after depressing you with yesterday’s horrible insect-ridden post, I am going to make it up to you by showing you something very joyful.

.

Unbelievably, the newest hit, recently uploaded onto YouTube, is a wonderful one which shows the friendship which is possible between two animals which would normally not get on together at all.

.

It shows a stunning barn owl called Gebra, playing in the countryside with a friend who is a beautiful black cat.

The cat is called Fum…..a shortened version of ‘Fe Fi Fo Fum’ perhaps!

It is joyful to watch.
.

.

Perhaps there IS some truth behind the old song The Owl and the Pussycat after all!
.
Now, just to give you another special treat if you have never heard the song.
Here is Lord PurrPurr singing his smashing version of it.
.

.
Wasn’t that lovely.
Do have a furry day yourself!

Really Bad News From Vancouver.

.

Hi Folks,

.

It is dreary and cold again here….back to the usual weather I fear.

.

It is so changed now, that we have upped temperature on the central heating, dug out the winter sweaters again and put the padded quilt back down on top of the duvet.

.

All of which brings us neatly to the dangers of going to bed.

.

There is yet more information to add to my continuing posts regarding the new world-wide plague of bed bugs.

.

There has been a recent report from from the US Centre For Disease Control And Prevention, which concerns this subject.

.

Although there is no information that the insects spread disease to the unfortunate humans that they feed upon, there is some cause for worry now, and a definite need for further research into the possibility of it happening.

.

In Vancouver, a doctor called Marc Romney has found very worrying results after doing some research into the subject of bed bugs spreading disease.

He did this after noticing that the spiralling cases of bedbugs was matched by a similar upsurge in cases of MRSA.

These were all from a very poor dock area in Vancouver.

.

The doctor then discovered that there were patients from this area whose bedbugs were found to be carrying the MRSA superbug.

Although there is no information that the bugs spread disease to the unfortunate humans that they feed upon, there is some cause for worry now, and a definite need for further research into the possibility of it happening.

MRSA can enter the body through open areas of skin, and this has the possibility of being a new vector for the spreading the infection.

.

Although this is the first research of it’s kind, and is on a very small scale, there obviously needs to be further work done on the subject.

Obviously the MRSA may been have transmitted to the bed bugs by the humans which they feed on, or it may have been present in the insects by some other means.

The mechanics of it definitely need to be better understood.

.

Urghhhh!

Doesn’t it make your flesh creep just to think about it!

Bedbug Central

Fascination Of The Four Sisters.

Hi,

.

I spent some time yesterday, enjoying the work of a guy called Nicholas Nixon.

.

In 1975 he had a marvellous idea.
He decided to take a photograph of his wife, along with her three sisters.
.
The idea was that he would have them stand in order of their age, from oldest to youngest, and that he would repeat this yearly, keep the order exactly the same from photograph to photograph.
.
I found it all to be quite compelling to see the women grow and change over the course of their lives, yet still somehow stay the same.
.
A simple yet fascinating idea.

.

I wish that I had done that myself.

I love good photography.
.
The Four Brown Sisters.
.

.
Someone else did though.
Another photographer called Sally Mann.
.
Sally Mann named her work…. Immediate Family.
These are haunting images.
A beautiful exploration of children from childhood to puberty.
Totally awesome work by this photographer.

Beautiful!
.

.
WOW.

Buy Princess Beatrice’s Wedding Hat. NOW!

Hello Folks,
.

You do remember the furore which was caused by the Philip Treacy hat that was worn by Princess beatrice at the Royal Wedding recently.

It became infamous and quickly developed a life of it’s own….and fans!

.

The princess has now had the most excellent idea of using all of the resulting publicity, and interest, to sell the hat at auction and then use the proceeds to benefit a good cause.

This is also a hopeful sign of a good sense of humour…. which is always appealing to everyone.
Well I could not resist finding out the details about the sale of the amazing hat….who knows. you may be desperate to buy it!

.

It could be a good buy too.

I suppose if it was on display somewhere it would prove very popular with visitors of all sorts.

Perhaps it would be a good business proposition for the right person, and it will benefit charity too.

.

Or…. perhaps…. the successful buyer could have a copy re-created by Philip…. and then breed them…. so that we could all have one!!!!!!

.

The charities that the princess has chosen are to be Unicef and Children In Crisis.

.

The sale is now being held on e-bay.

If you want to bid, you need to arrange pre-approval before doing so!

The sale ends on May 22nd.

.

What a fine idea!

ASBO’s And Bodhi.

Hey,

.
Time for some fun once more.
.
I shall start this post by telling you about extreme sports again,
But this time for dogs.
.
It seems that a canine dweller in Brighton is in trouble with the law….and could end up with an ASBO!
.
He goes by the moniker of Bodhi and he is a skateboarding fanatic who spends a lot of time on the streets perfecting his craft, but unfortunately he has been the cause of tripping up a few pedestrians who probably did not see the racy Lakeland Terrier until it was too late.
.
Bodhi owns a long suffering pet called Jonathan Fell, whom he sends out to work as a landscape gardener for Terraforma.
This 51 year old gentleman was recently fined £80 for Bodhi causing a nuisance. while skateboarding in the town
Suggestions having been made that in future he should confine his hobby to public parks!.

.
Bodhi strutting his stuff in skateboard park.

.

.
Of course, what one dog does, others can do better.
.
Here is advertising star Tillman….he did iphone commercials.
.

.
And of course there is my own personal favourite, the amazing Tyson….no ordinary dog!
.

.
It certainly beats the dogs having to take their human pets for their long daily walks!
.

.
.

Oh, by the way, I read that Princess Beatrice is planning to auction her horrible wedding headgear for charity.

A good idea….but I shall not be bidding!

A Night-Time Ramble.

Hi,

.

So here I am, up in the early hours again.

It is three o’clock in the morning and all is well.

.

Don’t ask me why but I just suddenly woke up and could not settle again.

It is no good fidgeting about and waking Big H up, so I decided to make myself some workman’s tea in my 1 pint mug, and do a bit of blogging on the computer.

.

It is very beautiful outside, with a lot of moonlight, and everything outside seems to be holding it’s breath.

No wonder cats like to stay out and roam around at nights.

.

Yesterday was quite a busy one because we had another hospital visit so that Big H could get his hormone levels checked and find out about his latest CAT scan.

Luckily everything is OK and the tumour has not changed in size  from the last time it was examined about six months ago.

That was a big relief for us, and yet another hormone is going to be added to the mix that is taken, so hopefully Big H will finally be able to have more energy and get out and about a bit more.

.

I suppose that might be the reason I could not sleep very well tonight, because you worry about everything being alright and it leaves you emotionally worn out.

.

We had a lovely evening last night because we had a family visitor to visit, which meant that I made a nice meal and we got to have a good chat and a proper catch-up together.

It was a real treat and I wish that we all lived a lot nearer to each other than we do.

I think that I drank too much wine though because I have got a bit of a hangover….I am actually old enough to know better than that, so I only have myself to blame….don’t you just hate that!

.

Tomorrow will be much quieter because Big H will be tired after all of the excitement but we may possibly manage a short walk if I am lucky.

.

On Wednesday I had a few hours out with one of my friends who drives a car.

She picked me up and we went along to a curtaining and upholstery materials factory shop that was advertising an excellent sale.

.

There were some amazing reductions to be had and she bought two different types of pure silk to make new curtains for bedrooms.

The price were totally incredible, with the silk being reduced from £30+ a metre, down to an enticing £5 a metre!!!!

I was so taken with some of it that I had to stop myself being greedy and buying it just because it was so beautiful, especially one rough raw silk that looked more like hessian but felt soft and wonderful….and some pale green…..and a really heavily embroidered opulent one.

I did however buy some sumptuous pink velvet in a most gorgeous paler shade.

.

T K Max came up trumps again too, and I found two more beautiful big feather filled tapestry cushions with elaborate fringing, to put on the living room settees.

They fit in nicely with my previous cushion purchase.

.

Big H is like most men I know and he hates cushions with a vengeance, but even he had to admit that he liked them a bit, so perhaps he will be able to restrain himself from throwing these ones onto the floor all of the time.

It drives me mad when he keeps doing that!

.

So there, that is all of my news at the moment, and it is now 4.37am. and all of the birds have started singing.

I hope that you are finding equally enjoyable small pleasures, and lots of elegant cushions, in your own life.

Have a good Friday.

J,x.

Yves Rossy. To Infinity And Beyond. The Real Buzz Lightyear.

Hi,

.

Something to take your breath away.

.

This post concerns an innovative Swiss aviator, and former army pilot, named Yves Rossy.

.

The daring extreme sportsman has long had a wish to fly over the grand Canyon in the USA.

Not so hard to do you might well say, but this man wanted to do it while wearing his amazing jet-propelled wing suit.
.
He has broken many flying records up until now, and was the first man to fly with a rocket on his back.
Here is film of him previously jumping from a hot air balloon over Lake Geneva at a height of well over 2,000 metres
He also loops the loop.
.

.

This is film of him wearing his jet-suit which was said to have been developed at a cost of about $300,000.
He can reach speeds of around 180mph.
The suit is said to have been designed to include four German built model aircraft engines which are incorporated into the wing-suit.
.

.

About four days ago he called off an attempt to cross the Grand Canyon because it did not feel right to him.

.

.

But now he has lived his unusual dream.

He has successfully flown the Grand Canyon.

.

.
I think he is stunningly brave and pioneering.
Obviously the sort of man who will be busy setting some other impossible record soon.
.

But remember folks…..these stunts are dangerous and should not be attempted by other people in their own homes!!!!!!!

Earthquake Predicted To Hit Rome Today. May 11th 2011.

Hey,

.

How weird is this.

.

Many years ago, there was a prediction made by a gentleman named Raffaelle Bendandi, that on May 11th 2011 there would be a massive earthquake in Rome.

.

Rafaelle Bendandi was a seismologist.

.

There has been great concern about this prediction, probably because of recent events which have taken place in the world generally.

.

Many of the people in the city are now very apprehensive and feel that they are at risk

.

Shops have been closed and parents are keeping their children close.

.

A lot of workers are absent and the normal traffic is significantly reduced.
.

.

There actually have been reports of small earthquakes happening in Italy recently, and the largest one of those was in Sicily.

.

The last really strong earthquake to affect Italy actually took place in 1908, with a resulting tsunami.

Thousands of people died.

.

There were also reports of one on 2009, in L’Aquila, which was reported as resulting in hundreds of deaths.
.

.

People are therefore very worried!

.

Remember the predictions for December 12th 2012.

.

Whoaaah!
