Something Unexpected In The Garden.
Hello Peeps,
.
So here we are, back in the North again, and you can certainly feel the difference in temperature here.
.
We have been down in the London area for a while, doing some visiting and looking about etc.
It was all immense fun….and obviously warmer too!
.
Unfortunately I took my trusty sheepskin boots with me so that I could be sure of staying toasty in the foot area, and thus continuing to avoid chilblains.
Halfway through our travels I neglected to re-pack them and they are now residing in someone else’s house….and not mine.
.
As a result, I am now back home where I awake to frost on the slate roofs in the mornings and quite fierce cold at night, and sadistic draughts coming in under the doors.
My feet are once more icy for a lot of the time so I am hoping that it warms up again soon before I have a problem because of my poor circulation.
.
I miss my boots sorely.
When I was younger it might have been a man that I pined for, but now it is my boots.
How sad is that!
.
I am however wearing my excellent Puffa jacket….all fastened up!
.
Part of the trip was spent in Windsor, which is a most picturesque place, and one of the most litter-free town centres that I have ever seen.
It is obviously a good idea to live in the same place as the Queen does.
There are side benefits if you do, and a lot of pageantry to observe as Royal Weddings and other ceremonies take place.
.
However, I was most amazed by something that I saw there which was totally tropical and unexpected.
.
As I stood in a garden gazing at the trees, there was a flash of bright green in one of them.
Intrigued, I kept watching, and was amazed to suddenly realise that I was seeing two big green parrots with long tails.
And no, I had not been drinking!
.
It turns out that back in the seventies, someone released a breeding pair which proceeded to survive and do very well indeed.
There is now a large colony of them living in the area and adding an unexpected and surreal touch to the normal English landscape.
.
I know that a large number of people disapprove of this sort of foreign element, and there is a great deal of concern about the grey squirrels causing the demise of the red squirrels etc, and escaped cultivars such as Indian Balsam.
.
However, I just loved seeing the parrots and they do not seem to have caused any problems at all because of their success.
What a lovely surprise they were.
.
I hope that your week is going nicely too, and that you have at least one lovely surprise today yourself.
J.
