The Cove. Taija Japan. A Disgraceful Secret.
Hi,
.
This is not the most cheerful of mornings, being wet and grey again today, and neither is this going to be the most cheerful of posts.
.
Have you seen the prize winning film ‘the Cove’?
This eye opening film is an Oscar winning documentary that brings to light the inhumane slaughter of dolphins.
It has been distributed in some 40 countries, but not in Japan, because the government is said to be preventing the knowledge becoming general there.
.
It seems that most Japanese people have little idea that this annual rite of slaughter is even happening.
.
The filmaker Louie Pshihoyas set out to expose the illicit slaughter, joined by a man named Richard O’Barry.
Mr O’Barry was once a famous trainer of dolphins but he has changed direction over many years and has since become one of their strongest defenders.
.
In order to complete this shocking documentary film, the pair were subject to attacks by fishermen and kept under surveillance by police.
They were obstructed and frustrated at every turn by unhelpful bureaucracy.
Getting such proof of wrongdoing is dangerous work, some campaigners have apparently died trying to help such creatures.
.
Oh my god, I could hardly watch it because it is so heartbreaking.
To see so many dolphins being slaughtered in the secret lagoon.
.
This is not a film to be watching if you are not willing to risk being upset by what these committed campaigners capture on film.
.
They needed to film while staying undercover.
There is also underwater filming.
They used Industrial Light and Magic’s most recent technology to it’s fullest extent to capture the awful massacres that took place in that particular year alone.
This is the extended trailer.
.
.
Hopefully, these men and their devotion to the dolphins, will help to prevent the sesurgence of whaling and the destruction of the irreplaceable.
Why do we do these things.
This is not the first time that I have written about Japan’s part in the killing of whales and dolphins.

Having watched the program (hats off to the amazing people who made it and have brought the horrific subject to the public eye), my family and I will never set foot in any marine park that uses dolphins and I will do what ever I can to spread the word. I know of friends who have holidayed in places that offer a swim with dolphins and will certainly point out the facts from the program.
It makes me so very sad to see what the human race is doing to our beautiful planet and I worry for my childrens future!
