The Winds Of Change.

Hi,

.

Greetings to you from the dark and rainy North.

.

Today I am thinking about the changes in childhood since I was growing up, remember that we only bought a television when I was about 13.

It only received broadcasts for a certain number of hours per day.

.

Nowadays things are very very different!

This is a strange clip, which seems to have become an instant hit with everyone.

.

It has been uploaded by the parents of a lovely little one year old.

.

This girl has spent all her short life as a true child of technology.

She is wired to understand the modern world.

.

This clip shows her using an iPod quite happily, before being given two magazines.
.

.

.

It seems to be that when she looks at the magazines she is somewhat confused.

.

Perhaps for her, a magazine is merely a broken iPod!

.

For those brought up to the digital experience, touch would seem to be everything.

They expect the world to be at their fingertips.

.

What do you think.

Is technology destroying the imagination, creativity and whimsy of childhood.

.

Is this modern technology destroying the bonding between parents and children, over the joint experience of story-telling from books.

.

Does the ‘boredom’ of less immediately stimulated childhood, aid the grasp of reading and the unlocking of a doorway into other worlds of imagination.

.

Are modern innovations, such as the iPod, killing a child’s ability to create games of their own.

.

Are so many hours being spent alone in this one experience, that children are no longer learning to be properly sociable and connected to others.

Are they at risk of being stunted in their natural development, in the way that children who spend too long, alone in front of televisions, are thought to be.

.

Or is this just normal and healthy change.

.

What is your opinion of it all.

J.
