Talking of art, it has just been announced that the Glasgow artist Martin Boyce, 44, has won this year’s prestigious Turner Prize.
.
The presentation was made by the much admired Mario Testino …. who was somewhat disconcerted by the unscripted appearance onstage of a large man wearing a pink tutu.
Unfortunately, the actual announcement of the winner’s name was somewhat lost, in the clamour of it all!

His winning work is entitled ‘Perforated And Porous (Northern Skies)’, and is a re-created park scene, the centrepiece of which is a waste basket.

The work was described by the judges as being a pioneering piece of art and as having a ‘new sense of poetry’.

There is a chance to view the shortlisted works at the Gateshead Baltic centre until January 8th 2012.
