We Tattooed Ourselves.

Hello,

.

When I was a little kid, we used to sport our own semi- permanent tattoos.

.

It did not have to be permanent because we did it nature’s way.

.

It was different, it was temporary, and we felt that it definitely got us noticed.

.

When a cut-out shape was placed onto the skin, before it was exposed to the sun, the end result was an area of pale skin which was like a reverse tattoo.

.

As children we used to use pieces of doilies, which were stiff fancy paper plates that had an intricate cut- out design that looked like lacework, in order to achieve a striking effect.

We also used leaves, and cut out letters from things, which we stuck onto ourselves to form words, or even our names.

We would just stick them on our arms or our fronts, and forget them as we played .

It was great fun and we felt good.

I cannot remember what we used if we were sticking them on but I would assume that it was  something in the order of spit or flour paste or a childrens’ glue that was in a bottle with a red rubber stopper with a split in it so that you could press down on paper and the glue would be forced out of the split, or perhaps even jam or something like that.

.

Little human billboards.

.

We probably looked hilarious though, because as I remember now, our spelling left quite a lot to be desired.

.

LOL

I think that the idea probably came from seeing the guy who went to sleep on the beach, wearing his awful string vest, and who eventually woke up to find himself with a white harlequin pattern all over his bright red, burned skin.
