Werewolf.
Hi,
.
Well, I hope all is normal with yourself and that nothing changes with the advent of the next full moon.
.
Last night was a cold and murky one, which was just right for Big H and I to watch the latest film that we downloaded on the XBox.
It was ‘The Wolfman’, starring Benicio del Toro and Anthony Hopkins, and was obviously about werewolves.
What an excellent film it was too.
Although it was somewhat gory it was still in the fine old tradition reminiscent of the much earlier Hammer House Of Horror films, with the old stars like Christopher Lee.
It did not frighten me in the same way that the modern slasher films do, in fact I don’t think that I have watched anything really scary since ‘The Howling’* which must have been 30 years ago now.
.
‘Wolfman’ was extremely Gothic, with shadowed fire-lit halls and dark suitably ancient villages full of superstitious locals, as well as itinerant gypsies passing through the landscape.
The scenes where the change from man to werewolf take place are very dramatic too…and very moody in just the right way.
A real bit of escapism, rather than something too frightening to watch, like more modern slasher movies are said to be.
Big H enjoyed it too.
.
.
The only thing that was missing was a lot of cold beers and treaties, but we were good because it is not a weekend and we said we would not do that!
If you do not like your scariness to be too scary, then I would definitely say that you should take a bite at it.
.
As you know, I have a taste for vampire films as well, so I shall see about watching a few of them soon too.
I absolutely loved ‘Interview With A Vampire, I mean what could be better than men with fabulous long hair ….who are also vampires.
Pure entertainment!
.
However if I ever met a vampire or a werewolf I would wet myself instantly.
It is something best avoided in real life in my opinion.
.
There seem to have been stories of werewolves throughout history, in all parts of the world.
.
During the Middle Ages many people were accused of being werewolves and witches and were punished accordingly.
They even confessed, although you cannot put much faith in that because they were also tortured until they did so.
.
Depending upon the country, many people believed in were-hyenas, were-tigers and even were-bears.
I believe that the Berserker warriors in the Middle Ages wore the skins of wolves in order to be more fearsome.
I bet it worked!
.
So, knowing my luck, I will go for a walk today and meet a were-rabbit.
Whoahh!
.
I wish you a modern and sensible day….with no biting!
J,x.

* The Howling
.
I think that they are in the process of filming a remake of that one.
I don’t know that I would be able to watch it because the other one got so scary…for the time…that I never finished watching it!
.
And ‘An American Werewolf In London’ was quite a scary one too for the time.
.
I might watch that again !
