What A Start To The Weekend.
Greetings Peeps,
.
This is the most beautiful morning that anyone could possibly ask for.
The sky is an electric blue, with just a few fat and puffy white clouds and the sun is bleaching down to make everything look fabulous.
.
I am watching an old guy in a horrible ‘Dutch Boy‘ hat walking up to the Spar, wearing a blue and white shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, a pair of grey polyester-type trousers and white socks with Jesus sandals….believe me, that is about as summery as it ever gets up here, regardless of the temperature….or current fashion!
.
How wonderful it would be to sit in Italy and watch the men pass louchly by, clad in well cut linen suits, beautiful belts, gleaming shoes and fine soft shirts.
I have never actually been there, but in my mind’s eye it is an old classical place, full of irresistibly stylish and tempting men who look like sleek predatory big cats.
.
It is probably not true, just the lasting effects of too many Antonioni films when I was an impressionable young girl.
But a very beguiling daydream.
.
I expect that if I was looking aimlessly out of a window in Rome today, I would be watching an old guy in a disgusting ‘Dutch Boy’ hat making his way to an Italian Spar to get himself an issue of La Repubblica.
The whole world is becoming homogeneous now, no matter where you go to, the streets of the cities seem to be filled with the same old shops selling the same old crap that you can buy in your local high street back home.
It is sad.
What a different world from the one seen by aristocrats who embarked on their grand tours many years ago.
.
Talking about Rome.
I have been reading in The Times about the current scandal surrounding the Pope and his older brother Mgr Ratzinger, the Vienna Boys’ Choir and the Regensburger Domspatzen Boys’ Choir.
In recent years the church has been rocked by revelations of paedophilia, long denied and concealed by the priesthood.
.
Eight former choristers of the Vienna Boys’ Choir are said to have denounced their teachers recently, and up until now there have been about 300 claims of sexual abuse made by former pupils of German Church schools and non-denominational boarding schools.
.
The Pope is said to be worried because the Government wants the affair to be investigated by state prosecutors because the church is not to be trusted to do the job properly in the light of past cover-ups.
.
There is only one amusing aspect to this dreadful thing…how strange is it that the reporter probing into the whole mess of paedophilia is a gentleman by the name of Roger Boyes.
Sometimes life is stranger than fiction!
.
Nothing more to report today.
See you soon.
Have a good one.
J,x.
Did you read about the report which was carried out and found that that 1 in 4 Italian parents still slap or spank their children.
It is a form of discipline most often resorted to when the erring children are between 3 and 4 years of age.
So it is not all about free childhood trips around the Duomo then!
