Whoaah, Stay Out Of Swedish Forests If You Are Wearing A Little Red Riding Hood.
Hi,
.
The weather here is continuing to be harsh.
It is still freezing cold and overnight we had snow again.
Yesterday Big H felt energetic enough to go for a walk and by the time we got home I could not feel my fingers anymore.
.
I have to admit that with retirement looming, only weeks away, the thought of life in much warmer climes is once again seeming to be beguiling.
How beguiling, I am not sure, but the thought works for me at this particular moment!
.
How are you today?
I hope that all is going well and that you are being good.
Remember that Santa will be watching and bad behaviour could definitely affect the number of presents that you will receive next Christmas!
.
I have been very good so far….very disappointing!
.
I was very surprised recently to find out that Sweden has decided to issue licences for hunting wolves again.
This practice was stopped in the mid-sixties when they were coming very close to being extinct.
.
Since the ban, the wolf population has grown so well that there are now believed to be over 200 of them.
The new permits are seen as the way to keep the increasing numbers down to a controllable level.
.
I like wolves, they have the most amazing eyes, but I cannot imagine coming across a pack of them while walking somewhere in a forest.
I would probably be totally peeing myself with fright.
In the UK we do not have to worry about bears, poisonous insects or mountain lions etc. so that sort of thing always sounds very scary indeed.
.
Just meeting a big loose dog can be scary enough.
I remember when we were in the Middle East. Big H took me to a lonely beach where he had often gone to snorkel, before I went out to live there with him.
There was a pack of wild dogs there so I refused to stay on the beach , never mind be there alone while he went to swim, because I was very nervous of them.
.
There were also huge numbers of feral cats trying to make a living there, mixed in with many poor cats still looking cared for, after being thrown out of their homes.
.
There are frequently cases here, of people being attacked by a dogs, but luckily it is not usual to have cases of rabies as they do in many countries.
.
I remember being very pleased to get back home at that time, so I will probably stay here where life is more understandable….and with less creepy crawlies to worry about.
We might get a terrible fright when a great big British spider appears, but at least we know that it is not going to give us a poisonous bite….I hope!
.
One thing in favour of this cold weather though.
I read that it kills off many household pests.
Apparently, in big posh hotels, there has now been an explosion of fleas, because they live and breed there very happily because of the permanent warmth provided by central heating .
.
How’s that for adding insult to injury.
You get hit (with a large bill)l after being well bit.
.
I cannot afford to stay in posh hotels anyway but that makes me feel a lot better about it.
There’s always a bright side!
.
So, I shall leave you now, and hope that you enjoy a wolf free day, even if you are wearing a fine red cape.
.
LOL
Jx.
