As you know I am totally enjoying the new programmes about the BBC expedition to Mount Bosavi to film the Lost Land Of The Volcano series.
.
The hope is that we will all realize that we cannot afford to keep on destroying our jungles at the present rate. If we do not stop such wanton destruction then we will all be the poorer for it and the ecosystem of our planet will be horribly damaged.
Although the area of these jungles is relatively small, they contain from about half to three quarters of all the species in existence.
These places are the treasure houses of our world.

The best cure for this destruction by logging, farming and poaching has to be to make it more worthwhile for these countries to protect their jungles and animals than it is to destroy them.
It does not take a genius to work out that in a decade or so there will not be any jungle left to cut down and profit from, so something that brings in money long term and also generates international gratitude and appreciation is way better.

We could help by giving these poorer countries money for conserving things as they are and protecting the indigenous species. Let the people earn more money for conservation work than they do for poaching and logging.

This is why I am so sickened by the attitude of Gordon Brown. Who the hell does he bloody well think that he is!

The team leader, George McGavin has made two other trips in the last three years or so, one to Borneo and the other to Guyana, doing much the same sort of thing with a group of experts.
Trying hard to raise public awareness of the problem before it is too late.
Shortly after the Guyana trip, the President of that country came to the Britain and had suggested handing over their whole rain forest in trust , to a group of advisers, if we would give his country development aid in return.

Did our fat-cat, smart-arse, money wasting, self serving government accept the offer with open arms.

Did they fuck!

They turned the offer down flat!
.
They will talk about Global Warming and saving animals from extinction till they send us to sleep, but it is all meaningless puffery.
Gordon Brown and his pathetic excuse for a Government should be publicly shamed for refusing such a cheap, simple and proper opportunity to do the right thing for once.
